Hey guys,

Right i have around £600 to spend on graphics performance, and i want the best i can get, what do you advise??

nvidia/ati - Dont mind tho im not watercooler so no HOT! cards please

Open to SLI or XFire

The system will be used for 3D rendering and video rendering and ofcourse gaming ;)

Cheers

If your using multi monitors id recommend eyefinity so the ATI range. you could easily for £460 get 2 sapphire 6950 toxic cards crossfire them and flash to 6970 bios and get great performance. I think 580's are great in sli but very expensive.

Well, I see your mobo has two PCI-e lanes that both run at x 16 speed. So you could drop in something like two 6950's, which would give so very nearly the same performance as one 6990. Two of these would be very nice and with a flick of a switch would likely function as two 6970's.

I'd consider the 6950's over the 6970's as mentioned since the difference is so minimal (3% iirc), and with an overclock you get 6970 performance for substantially less cash.

*Ok thats awesome thank you, so the only way to get better performance then what would be like 2 6990's then? which obvs im not going to do!

Re : the other motherboard - it won't make any difference I don't think, nice mobo btw. ;)

If you actually wanted 'even' more performance then you could add another to get tri or quad fire, so e.g. 6990 + 6950 / 70.

There are also nVidia cards, however two 570 2.5gb cards in SLI (for example) would take you over budget. You do have the option of two 560ti 2gb in SLI or two 570 1280mb cards also in SLI, which would keep you inside your limit.

2 6990's is just overkill at this point. seriously 2 6950's (toxic) like above poster said flick of a switch and you got your self a nice 6970 for less price and better clocking options.

Ok well thank you for all your help guys :)

Spec of new build if your interested:

Intel Core i7 980 3.33GHz (Gulftown)
Gigabyte X58 G1 Sniper Intel
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB
OCZ ZX Series 1000W
Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB
Corsair Vengeance 24GB
2 Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 TOXIC 2048MB

Yea...should go socket 1155 and SandyBridge, since it is faster for gaming and a more future-proof socket, not like the deadend socket 1366.
Also, I think you are pushing it with the 750W PSU if you gonna be doing any overclocking on the six cores i7 980, as well as a pair of 6950 Toxic (especially if you can unlock them to 6970).

The money you save by going i5 2500K or i7 2600K instead of the i7 980X would be enough for your to get a pair of GTX570 2560MB instead of the pair of 6950 2GB Toxic, as well as upgrading the PSU to a more powerful unit.
