what should i do for a 1st build?

had a quick scan through wikipedia regarding RAID. complicated but i will get there.
so far then:

Asus P6T Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Corsair HX 650W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650HXUK)........not talked about this really but is this the one i should be using. modular meaning you connect the cables to the PSU, e.g the PSU doesnt have the power cables already attached in a permanent state?

am keeping an open mind at the mo regarding the case..suggestions welcome though. thanks dmarcisz.

and Arctic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound

thats it for now.....

can i discuss the CPU with you guys....i5/i7? then theres different models of them?! the mobo above supports both though right?

oh also how can i found out the exact model and spec of my current mother board, graphics card PSU etc without going inside the case and phisically looking. thanks

Wrong theres:
i5 750 socket 1156
i7 860 +870 socket 1156
i7 920/950/975 socket 1336

I recommend the i7 860 or 920 probably the i7 920 if your going to be audio encoding so the p6t will be fine for a i7 920.

Download cpu-z that will tell you what cpu/mobo/mem/gpu you have

How much do you want to spend on a case? I would reccomend either the Coolermaster CM690-Pure Black which is a very nice solid case, The HAF 932 or 922 both have quality cooling but styling is :/ or if budget allows Coolermaster ATCS 840 which looks nice, solid and very good cooling.

can you not just add a pic from your HDD on here? ive downloaded cpu-z but as im on my laptop av took pics and wanted to show you guys what my current spec is. so how do i get pics up here for you.

motherboard

Antec 900, Antec 900-2, Antec 1200

think one of the above...

wouldn't mind one of these ones with the instruments at the front.

you linked the same url twice lol

I take it your talking about the corsair with the fans, the fans a gimick to get you to spend more than you need to on something that 95% of people wont see any difference with

are the SSD worth getting. i know there ridiculously expensive at the mo and are preume they are due to come down in price. but my idea was to have 3 HD's: a SSD for booting
2 for storage. just need a bit of clarification here. a boot drive? presume this is were all the info regarding the OS is stored e.g when installing a OS e.g windows 7 i will need to make sure it is installed to SSD? all programes and updates will be saved to this drive yi? then have 2 seperate ones for storage.

Its personal preference really

Eventually im going to get the crucial 128gb SSD for Win7 + programs then 2x samsung f3 1 TB in raid 1 for media storage etc

SSD are very expensive at the moment for their benefits, Hold out a little till prices drop
