What should I do?

Well my mother passed away mid august, and we have been back at school for about 2 weeks almost, now one of the teachers that I know of (My brother also knows of her but doesnt know her at all, doesnt have any lessons etc with her) has decided to send us a card in the post to say sorry,

now I really want to say thanks etc, for sending it, but I can just imagine how awkward it will be does anyone have any better idea? What could I say?, "thanks for the card"??

I would personally say thank you face to face to the teacher.

Sorry to hear about your Mom.

I would simply drop it into conversation with the person.

"thanks for the card by the way, was really nice of you."

that's where the problem lies, I never usually have a conversation with her, never have had either! (dodgy grammar?)

Just say you appreciate the concern and then hug her and walk away.

Well this is one of those times where you need to make a conversation. Only needs to be casual. The next time you see her, just say hello, and mention the card.

Next time you see her just say 'Thanks for your card, it was very thoughtful of you' she'll probably reply and there you go.

I have just been through something similar myself mate and have had lots of people I didnt know that well that I had to say thanks for coming etc etc.

Just wait untill your next class is over, make sure your the last to leave, walk up to her and say "thanks a lot for your card, we appreciated it" dont worry too much about the wording as she will totally understand.
