What should I do?

Afternoon you lovely people.

I've been out of the PC spec world for sometime now but still really enjoy PC gaming. I am in need of some advice as I'm torn on what to do.

So, over the years I've upgraded parts as and when, but I'm really noticing the old girl is starting to struggle on games that I really didn't think it would. For example, my daughter likes to play Fortnite on my PC and the thing gets bad lag when playing that.

My specs are as below, what should I do? Should I be looking to upgrade anything? Something or all of it?

CPU: Intel 8700k
Mobo: ROG Strix Z370-G
RAM: 16gb DDR4 Gkill
GPU: Zotac RTX3080

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Start by making sure you're current rig is running as it should. Use something like HWinfo to check temperatures. My system started slowing down and it was due to the AIO cooler clogging up and causing the system to throttle down to manage temperatures.

As @Jiffy mentioned above, check if you have any excessive heat issues by testing both the GPU and CPU under load. Use suggested monitoring software along with some stress tests. This will quickly eliminate them as a potential thermal issue if they pass.

Check all your drivers are up to date - especially GPU and chipset.

Your board has had a lot of BIOS updates - most notably for your system a '30XX card support update in 2021'. As you have a 3080 and you've been upgrading parts over the years it may benefit being upgraded to the latest BIOS if not up to date.

My wife plays this game - and find i have to update the Nvidia drivers every time it has an update. It's a PITA.

For Fortnite 32Gb RAM will help, also theres an option in epic to predownload all the shaders so its not doing it in game.

Your 3080 should be fine i had a 3080 and it performed well at 4K high settings with RT off
