What should I upgrade to?

My GPU is a GeForce 480 GTX, which I've had for a few years now. It's still working fine, but it's getting more stressed by recent games and I've noticed my GPU temperature is sitting in the low to mid 80s while playing Sleeping Dogs.

I've thought about upgrading it for a while now, but I wasn't sure what the best option would be budget-wise. I'd be looking for something around £200, though I'd go higher if required to get a good option. I'd prefer to stick with NVIDIA if possible.

What would you guys suggest?

If sticking with Nvidia, I'd up the budget a little. Upgrading to a GTX760 won't deliver that much of performance boost, all considered, though you might find it enough. It depends on what your expectations are. The other alternative is to keep a look out for a second hand GTX670 / 680 / 770. A GTX670 is only slightly faster than a GTX760, but the former is more likely to overclock further.

Gunna jump onto this post as i may be after an upgrade as well !

Currently have an R9 270x 4GB edition. Would i actually benefit from upgrading to an R9 290 ? I only want to game at 1080p and only have an AMD fx-8350 Processor so not sure if i would create a bottleneck ? i also only have a 650w power supply so wouldnt want to overload it ! i just wanna play Rome 2 and similar games on ultra at more than 30 fps !

Fire away with suggestions and reasons why, would probably wanna stick with AMD!

I'm not absolutely certain about bottleneck specifics concerning your cpu, though I would have thought you'll be fine. Just make sure you have a decent overclock. I believe your psu will also be more than acceptable, so a 290 should make for a nice upgrade.

Wouldnt touch Gk104s with a 10 foot long pole, even less the GIMPED gk104s as if they arent weak enough as is. And adding 4gb framebuffer to a 256 bus? Yea no...

Get a 780 if you want Nvidia or a 280x/290 if you want AMD.
