This makes sense, however the OP is asking for a monitor mainly for gaming and that is what I use mine for (as well as video watching, web browsing and Uni work).

Therefore a slightly larger viewable area will be better than a slightly smaller pixel pitch for these particular uses (more immersion, can be used effectively from further away). No doubt a small, high res screen is great for photo work - but I think that is a different thread.
