Hi

Looking to do my first Raid setup. I'm planning to use two Western Digital Caviar RE 160GB 1600YS SATA-II 16MB Cache in Raid0. What's the best stripe size when setting it up please??

Normally 32K or 64K, smaller stripes give better benchmarks and small file performance, larger ones give better performance with large files. You've normally got a range from 4K to 128K so 32 or 64 is a good compromise.

I set to 16k and it felt like my hard drives were going crazy, no doubt it decreases their life since they are constantly going at it. 32k should be good for most games and 64/128 if dealing with larger files. I'm just guessing all this though.

I tried a number of stripe/cluster sizes, the best (for me anyway) was a stripe size of 32KB, and cluster size of 4KB (XP default). :)

There was an article awhile back about it, I think it was 32(or16) was the best.

Id say 16 would be your best bet. I can't remember what I use.
