Hello,

Just moved into my first house and brought my old 32" TV from my bedroom at my parents, and it's just not big enough for our living room.

Is there a generic tool to work out what size TV you need depending on how far back you sit? From a quick browse of a few TV stores 48" seems to be a popular size. I'm not sure 40" would be a big enough upgrade?

I've got my eyes on this one...

I won't post where I've found it cheapest, as it's a direct competitor for OCUK, but it's £484

Be careful with the Samsung Tv's, many of them are having lip sync issues. Research a little more on AVForums and look at places such as John Lewis, Costco, Richer Sounds and Selfridges for 5 year warranty's. Also, hold off and see if the Boxing Day sales offer you any discounts.

The 48H5500 is available for pricematching from a retailer for £469.

I posted ages ago about what TV to get and I still haven't decided :( Currently between the Samsung UE48H5500, Samsung UE48H6400, Sony KDL48W585/605, Sony KDL50W829. Don't really want to spend as much as the 829 costs and concerned about Samsungs lip sync issues (some people are saying it's been fixed), so the 585/605 is looking like a decent compromise!

Trying to stop myself from upgrading my Panasonic TX-L42ET5B to the Samsung UE55H6400 as it looks like I can get it from Very for £630 and bigger seems like such a nice idea.

How are you finding it for gaming, if you use it for that? I've heard mixed reports on the response time of the Samsungs, although the AV Forums review speaks highly of it in that regard.

I haven't bought it yet, but it won't be using to for gaming anyway.

Just had Sky fitted and set our new TV up this morning. Got the Sony KDL50W829 and it looks superb. We were debating getting the 55" version but glad we didn't now. Out room isn't exactly small and even the 50" seems a bit large. Been to a few people a houses in recent months and their TVs just look stupidly big for the room, just makes it look ridiculous tbh. For an average sized living room I think 46-50 is about the maximum size I would want. In a dedicated cinema room...go nuts and get the biggest you can!
