What smart Doorbell?

I have a ring pro and it's okay but not great. I use a plug in transformer as didn't have enough space for the transformer in the consumer unit. Also thinking of swapping it out for a nest hello.
I have a Ring Doorbell Gen 1 at the moment and i am thinking of upgrading to the Pro, I too have an issue with no enough space on the CU. Could you let me know which transformer you went for? as i have a plug socket close by i could use.

My Ring Pro came with a transformer

EDIT: Sorry I've just realised you mean a transformer to plug thingy :p

What is to stop someone from stealing the door bell? The Nest one appears to be removable with a sim card pin?

they would be caught on camera and what would be the motive for doing so?

is someone going to risk jail for something they could sell for like £40? as they could easily be identified in the video. better off breaking a window and stealing a ps4.

The thing that will catch you out with ring especially the theft protection is if you read the terms you will not be covered if you didn't buy it from a few select retailers.

I know, right?!

I wonder if Nest can remotely disable them or block the serials like with iPhones to make stolen ones useless and therefore less appealing to steal

I have a £7 wireless doorbell from my local DIY shop. It works. If I wanted a security camera I would buy one of those. Out of curiosity, and at risk of de-railing this thread - what is the motivation for a smart doorbell?

2 fold

first of all a thief doesn't know it's a camera until it's too late. you get a lot of people at night trying peoples cars and front doors. the camera would catch them. if you had a proper cctv camera. they would see it a mile off. then just avoid your house or cover their face. with a nest hello it's harder to tell if it is a camera or not until it is too late and you are on camera.

secondly for parcels. all too often i have to go collect parcels which could have been left in my shed. so with the nest hello i can tell the geezer to go round the back and stick it in the shed.

i also have 5 cctvc cameras covering the inside and back of the property so my shed is covered by one of them.

Also, for all the person ringing the doorbell knows, you could say you’re in the garden or in the bathroom or any other reason not to come to the door, when in reality you could be on the beach in California. So anyone casing the joint by ringing the doorbell just to see if you’re in is likely to be dissuaded if they get a real person speaking to them.

Nest Hello owner and couldn't be happier, definitely recommend them to anyone looking at getting one. Been so useful on a number of occasions.

I went for the Nest over the Ring version simply because I have a few Nest products already so it made sense to do so and be able to operate everything with one app.

As mentioned, Nest will send a free replacement if its stolen.

this is the thing though people casing the joint will rarely ring the doorbell but make it look like they have. as in they will walk up to the door then look in to see what they can see (alarm panel, car keys, etc) they then may try the door. They may go up to your living room window and take a look in.

all of this would be captured by the smart doorbell. whereas a normal doorbell they wouldn't press the button so even if you were in you would be none the wiser if you were upstairs.

hereas a normal doorbell they wouldn't press the button

Some will. It's way less suspect for a burglar to go straight up to a house they're casing and ring the doorbell pretending to be a salesmen, which they can easily fob off if someone answers the door, rather than sneak about looking in windows, which looks immediately suspicious and will raise alarms if a neighbour or someone in the house sees them.

it takes literally all of 2 seconds to look in someones window especially if it's near the door. and then say oh i pressed the doorbell but got not answer.

the chances of a neighbour seeing them in those 2 seconds would be rare too. i know i never remember anyone visiting either of my neighbours unless i happen to be going out or coming home at the same time.

it's more suspicious as you say to not ring it which is why it's good as the nest will tell you when someone approached your door and never rang the bell.

we have a local facebook group and there has been videos of people trying peoples doors and cars late at night. so they would never be pressing doorbells. i'm talking like 3am they just go round trying peoples doors. the smart doorbell would capture them trying your door. and hopefully get a clear image of their face whereas a camera on the corner of your home high up would get the top of their head.
