I was chatting to my boss on the way to work this evening and he mentioned that the company want a new site designed so he asked for my advice on whether the price he had been quoted was a fair one.
From what I can gather they want a CMS back end with 6 pages to begin with and obviously the ability to upload new content and create pages as needed, what sort of price do you think is fair for this sort of work?
If you could give me a rough idea for using a prebuilt CMS skinned to their specification and also a custom CMS that would be great.

well, my bro-in-law works for a web development company, so I can guesstimate the prices they would charge (which are shocking)

They charge £300 for a 1 page site. For a prebuilt CMS with 6 pages you are probably looking at around £800-1000 and for a custom CMS around the £3-5k mark.

What does the company do by the way? My bro in law free lances ;)

were a security firm based in wolverhampton and the price they were quoted in bang in the middle of your pre built guesstimate

It entirely depends on the company you're using.

A 1 man band who buys his templates and CMSs off the shelf you're looking anything from £500 to £3k.

A specialist company who design the sites and build a bespoke CMS themselves you're looking more like 5 figures.
