What sort of Mileage is it worthwhile getting a Diesel?

West, this is obviously not a very good comparison since it wouldn't be practical for you but I'm using this to put stuff into perspective..

Did you know you could more than likely get a Focus RS for the same price as what you're paying for a MK2 Zetec.

Just think about it now ;)

For 9k, that would be the lower if not the lowest end of the Focus RS market.

He could take his 9k save at least 3k of it and still walk away with basically the same car (with more miles).

I'm perfectly aware of that.. but I feel that this car will be suitable for me and what I will be using it for.. I could have had a Cooper S for the price i'm paying for the Focus.. but this taking into consideration of things like insurance seems ideal for me :)

Still can't understand the logic behind this.

My parents would have booted me up the arse if I had even considered doing what you're doing, it is awful financial planning and it just fails in every way. Going to a crap car now, saving and buying an epic car when you're 21 is the way to go.

Yes, but it might be older than 3 years :o

Shock, horror etc.

As much as I don't like them, if I had similar financial circumstances, I'd be in a £2k Mk3 Mondeo....

Also

MK1/MK1.5 > MK2

They drive better, are faster and are just better. Why not consider an older Focus West.

I think the old Focus looks a ton better as well.

I couldn't get comfy in a MK 1 / MK 1.5 Focus as I found my head was to close to the roof lining. Mk2 a better fit (and looked better in IMHO), but more expensive than I budgeted for, so I got a Mondeo!

To the OP, hope you enjoy the car when you get it.

Tosh, having owned a ST170 and the current model, the MK2 is way better, it hasnt got the ELC dash-board for starters, new edge my ****:p

D'you know, this forum doesn't feel like a community/discussion forum. The motors forum in particular. I'm not even saying this in a bad way, it's just thread after thread of us educating others / each other about what cars to buy, lecturing each other on bad choices etc... It feels like I'm at school, or at some sort of support group ;) Feels odd, that's all :)
OK enough rambling Howard

i might need a diesel soon, had a focus tdci last year, back doing 700+ miles a week now, very depressing, my mondeo is a 2.0 petrol with 130k miles on it, so await a 'spec me a diesel thread soon' :(

You haven't even picked up the Mondeo yet...

If it's not to your requirements surely you'll not be buying it?

Is there anyone on this forum who thinks before they buy a car? You've had the Mondeo for what, a week!?

He's not even picked it up yet so I'm wondering what on earth he is on about.
