Hi all,

Just wondering what sort of price you would expect insurance to cost for

2001 Ford fiesta, 1.25L - 17 year old, male, 0 ncb,

Also, can anyone reccomend any good insurance companys for young drivers?

Would depend a LOT on your postcode, the milage your going to be doing, and if its TPFT or comp insurance you want.

As for companies, it varies a lot dependant on location, but a lot of people hear good things about:

Admiral
Elephant
Norwich Union Direct
Direct Line
Tesco
Churchill

etc etc etc.

Id expect comp insurance to be £1100-1400, TPFT to be around £1000.

Im looking now and the quotes are coming out between £3,500 and £7,500...which is why I started this thread.

Surley to hell this must be too much?

I have tried with and without pass plus.

Yeah, depends a lot on your postcode. On a 1997 Fiat Punto, 1.2 I eventually got it down to 2,100 TPFT. I changed my postcode and it went down to 1,200!!!! Bloody Liverpool!

Or, go on your parents insurance for a year maybe?

Just read current insurance threads to realise that going on your parents insurance is only delaying the inevitable. It will still be extortionate as you will have no NCB for yourself.

Just working my way down that list now, so far I have tried:

The RAC
Direct Line
Tesco
Admiral
Elephant

Still doing it, but its not going very well.

So your saying that If I go on my parents insurance for a year, I will be in the exact same boat in 12 months time?

Indeed ive learned the hard way from this as you said in my other thread should have not got car in my Dads name and me a named driver at that age. And now im 19 looking for 150bhp to 180bhp and getting quotes of £3900 - £4300 and if i had got it in my name would be cheaper now. :(

Ok cheapest quote I got at the moment is £3480 fully comp. Thats from tescos.

Im all out of ideas now, I have been through that whole list that you posted.

The car im looking at is £3400, so when its insured its going to be double that.

I suppose this is just how its going to be, If I want to get on the roads and lower these prices with NCB and such, Im just going to have to find the money. (a lot easier said than done though!)

If you look in the Motors Info sticky, there is a table for insurance/post codes. Look up your post code, and it will show what "group" your post code is, i.e. 1b. That will tell you if your post code is a good/bad area.

If its towards the bad end, you might find that insurance will be hefty :(

Firstly try TPFT insurance rather than fully comp as this should knock a few £££ off. Secondly what is your postcode (or rather the first 3/4 letters)? This is going to make a massive difference to your quote and I'm pretty sure there's a website that lists postcodes and insurance ratings.

I would be very surprised if you could get insurance below £1500 TPFT, glad I'm well away from that (now I'm just a cash cow for having the audacity to drive a fast car).

Im not sure if they still do it,

but i did pass plus and went with norwich union, i was 17 0ncb insured on a Mk4 Fiesta for a shade over 800£ a year

Like he said, and definitely add your parents as named drivers. I did and it knocked about £150 off my premium.
