Hi everyone.

I want to buy a half decent speaker system for my pc. My budget is £300 - £400.

I play games on my pc, watch films/youtube and listen to music.

I’m leaning towards Edifer as a brand but value your recommendations.

Thank you.

Take a look at the OCUK range of speaker systems, they have Edifier. You'll want active speakers as these have an inbuilt amplifier and can connect directly to the PC.

thanks for that. i’ve been looking at these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/edif...ve-monitor-speakers-s2000mkiii-sp-05b-er.html

You won't be able to buy a avr and speakers for that.

You'll want a avr and speaker system

Why is your default suggestion always an AVR and speakers? Not everybody wants or needs the functionality of an AVR and 5.1 speakers in their office or bedroom. Not to mention cheap AVRs are usually pretty pants for music reproduction and depth. He said he has multiple different use cases, not that this is part of his dedicated home theatre with Lay-Z-Boys.

Maybe start by asking what they'd prefer aesthetically, or how much space they have available.

@Terry1975, what exacly are you looking for? A full on surround sound experience, or just a pair of stereo speakers to sit on the desk?

Are you looking for 2 decent sized speakers, or smaller speakers paired with a subwoofer?

What's your current sound card?

£400 is a decent budget and will get you some very nice amplified monitor speakers! All you'd need is a decent DAC/sound card.

I wouldn't call myself an audio expert, but what I can see is that even the cheaper Edifier's on OCUK are getting some good reviews, so I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with the most expensive ones they have. Some of the cheaper ones also have Bluetooth though, which might make them useful for more devices:

For that kind of money you should check out stuff like the Adam T5V / T7V. Plenty of other choices from brands such as KRK or PreSonus, but I have a lot of first hand experience with the Adam T and A series speakers.

Like I said, your budget is very generous and will get you some very good speakers. I wouldn't even consider Edifier at that sort of price point (unless as pointed out by @radderfire you need some of the additional connectivity sometimes missing from dedicated monitors).

If all you need though is a very good pair of speakers to connect to your PC, Adam monitors, Adam Hall pads and a £100-150 DAC will sort you out nicely.

For movies you want surround sound, not stereo.

Stereo is great for two channel music but you don't get surround experience.

This site is pretty much pc speaker system go onto avforums.

Avrs offer far more, you know like surround sound decoding, inputs, remote control.

You can get good stereo monitors but you'll have issues like poor I/O. If you have consoles as well? And want remote control ? Bass management. Room correction , subwoofer integration.

With active stereo speakers you are stuck with what you have.

Use digital out from your PC.

That’s good to know thank you. I will look at the Adam’s.

That wiim amp has bass management, high pass/low pass, Eq and parametric EQ.

Plus a quality streamer, and a dac and a amp, remote control.

Something monitors lack. I would highly recommend high pass/crossover setup in a standmount 2.1 system. You won't get that with pc system not for all sources either just only If you use own soundcard features.

Thank you. I’m not overly fussed about surround sound as I have a decent setup in my lounge. Occasionally I will watch a film at my computer desk so just looking for a fairly decent stereo setup.

He won't need bass management or filtering with a 2.0 setup @hornetstinger. That Wiim Amp does look a very nice bit of kit, but as with an AVR, it's the wrong choice for a nearfield desktop setup IMO.

Agree on the points about the I/O limitations, although most of which can be mitigated against with a feature rich DAC.

Obviously there are other brands to choose from but the Adam T series are a very very good budget monitor speaker. I have the T7Vs and would highly recommend them.

If he wants a sub those features are very useful.

How is it wrong, just buy some passive studio nearfield monitors.

True, but you suggested the Wiim Amp with Wharfedale Diamonds.

Genuine question here as I have no exeperience with them.... are they designed to be used nearfield?
