sorry for another one of these thread guys!

Im looking to build a new system in the near future to replace my now 4yr old system. The system will primarily be used for editing software such as avid, adobe after effects and as a general media centre.

I would like the 'base' of the system to be upgradeable in the future for the new line of intel chips and ddr3 RAM possibly. Basically be as 'future proof' as possible if such a thing is possible...

I will definately be wanting to overclock, maybe to the higher end of the spectrum, so would i possibly be looking in to water cooling? I quite like the look and spec of this case -
Thermaltake VD4000BWS LCS Kandalf Full Tower - Black

what are people thoughts on this case?

I wont be needing dvd writer as this can be taken from my current computer,.

Anyway if someone could spec me something, the best they can for £1000 then it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

seem a bit ott to start oc'ing the water cooling, if you're just using avid and the like.

probly maybe a good idea to look at some workstation gpus, rather than gaming ones.

To be honest i know little about the subject, but from what i know programs such as avid and after effects can be fairly cpu intensive when encoding or rendering. My thoughts the faster the clock speed the faster the render/encoding and therefore the hotter they run.

Sorry if i sound like an idiot, but i just like to get peoples opinions in here first before i make such a big purchase.

Thanks.

well obviously what you say is true, but the money spent on water cooling, would be better spent elsewhere imo.

ie. more ram, etc...

I'll see what i can come up with, but im not too sure on how well various gpu's peform in the apps u plan to use, only how well they work in games.

na my £1000 is just for the computer its self. All periferals will be delt with separately.

Idealy I would like to be coming in under the £1000 pound budget, but anything upto is fine.

Thanks a lot.

this does not inlcude monitor, and I'm not sure on the gpu, don't really know much about using gpus for apps other than gaming like.... (thought the extra gpu memory might help when rendering lots of 3d objects)

and i didnt know how muhc storage you wanted either so that's got 1TB...

and you should be able to oc this to atleast 3ghz easily.

np, and that didn't include an OS, what OS were you looking at? because to run 4gb you will need 64-bit os, and I've heard a lot of 3d programs are not 64-bit... just a thought...

Cr0fty - i believe you are correct, however I know if less about these cards than your standard desktop gfx card. Baring in mind this computer will not be a dedicated editing station, more of a multimedia station also used or editing, after effects etc do you have any suggestions or opinions?

Time to do some in depth research.

Thanks guys

Go for as much fast RAM as possible. I don't know how much the board can hold, but 8 GB would be nice. Or at least leave the option open. The quadro FX cards are workstaion quality, but I don't know how much you would need them. Consider Matrox for the Graphics cards, they use to be pretty good when it came to Video Workstation cards.
