Hi all,

BT have just been out to fix my ADSL which wasnt sync'ing.... my old line stats @ 512k were:

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 832 Kbps
Noise Margin 8.6 dB
Line Attenuation 58.0 dB
Output Power 11.9 dBm

Upstream
Line Rate 288 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 776 Kbps
Noise Margin 19.0 dB
Line Attenuation 31.5 dB
Output Power 13.5 dBm

and my stats are now:

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 5920 Kbps
Noise Margin 28.9 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB
Output Power 11.9 dBm

Statistics Upstream
Line Rate 288 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 1068 Kbps
Noise Margin 29.0 dB
Line Attenuation 31.5 dB
Output Power 14.6 dBm

Dont have a clue what they did, but it seems to be a lot better now. What speed should I be able to get on these new stats?

Thanks

wow

A crude estimate of what your line is capable of is 4274kbps (kilo bits per second).

Thats gone up massively from a max of 512kb. I wonder what they did????

You could also look at the "Attainable line rate" value :p

Your attenuation's dropped by 19dB. Either the engineer has fixed some fault, or (assuming identical material and gauge) you're now on a pair that's 1.9km shorter.

lol I did think that, but its a belkin router which I heard arent that great, so didnt think it would be accurate...

Attainable Line Rate 5920 Kbps according to the router, and 4274kbps according to the site, so quite a big difference there :D

One's taking the SNR margin to 0, and I'd imagine Andrew/MrSaffron's uses the default 6dB target SNR margin.

I see.

What shall I do now? I am currently with Zen. I moved to my new address about 6 months ago. I was previously on their original unlimited 2meg service (Home2000 i think). When I moved, they had to downgrade me to 512kb (Home500) as my line would not sync.

As I am now getting better stats, should I ask them to put me back up to 2meg unlimited, or move to their new service? or migrate elsewhere?

I am open to opinions.....

Zen don't off the 2 meg unlimited anymore. They offer capped ADSL Max products.

but i was originally on the 2mb uncapped service so with a little persuasion they should put me back on to it...

would this be my best option?

I am after an uncapped ISP if at all possible (or one with a very high cap!)

According to sam knows...

You are connected to the Maidenhead telephone exchange.

The following table details the availability of LLU services at your location.

Be Unlimited should be available in your area from January 31st 2007
Bulldog is available in your area
Carphone Warehouse should be available in your area from August 31st 2006
Easynet is available in your area

Are any of these uncapped?

hmmm from a webchat with Zen...

"I'm checking the line stats on this line and I can see that the line is too long for a 2mb IPstream"

but my line stats are ok? I dont get it

I would post this on ADSL Guide. The Zen forum is browsed by a number of Zen's support staff who would be better placed to help.

The checker is probably working with the old values (which had an attenuation which was out of range for home2000). If you press them, they should be able to get the checker updated though.

hmmm not good, my stats have dropped from:

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Noise Margin 28.9 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB

A crude estimate of what your line is capable of is 4274kbps (kilo bits per second).

to:

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Noise Margin 19.5 dB
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB

A crude estimate of what your line is capable of is 1569kbps (kilo bits per second).

:( :( :(

Im gonna cry
