What sport requires the most skill?

Most sports require a combination of skill and athleticism, but having a debate with mate about which requires the most pure skill. Snooker is my choice as there is such a variety of shots/angles/pace of ball etc.

What do you reckon?

Waterpolo... :o

Kabadi has got to be up there...the ability to hold your breath while trying to bitch slap your opponent whilst wearing some tight-ass shorts is not something you are born with.

I remember watching that on Channel 4 about 15 years ago. Mental sport. And all those men holding hands lol :D

Golf.

Top golfers control the flight and spin of a ball to land it on a sixpence to afford the easiest putt. It requires touch, skill, strength and mental stamina under intense pressure over four days.

Not only that, but you never get the same shot twice. Golf deffo gets my vote :)

Surely if snooker is not a sport then for the same reasons neither is golf?
Agreed, it's a similar game on a larger scale (although I personally think snooker is most certainly a sport anyway).
If you think about it, even Darts is a game of pure skill, physical conditioning doesn't come into it, it's all about how perfectly you can throw those arrows.

My vote goes to snooker though, anyone who's ever played it on a professional table knows exactly how immensely tricky it is.

I was going to say the exact same thing but hadn't read the thread and thought someone must have already made that point.

Of all the so called sports in the world, golf is the one that I just cannot for the life of me understand why people would want to watch it  truly mind numbingly boring.

Daft question really.
No sport requires any more 'skill' than another.
For example, you could argue football for hundreds of reasons. But those reasons could be argued against with just as good reasons for Basketball. Or for F1, or for whatever.

Cricket..

it is the most unnatural sport invented, the technique required is immense. Then there are other factors, such as the enviroment (adpating to pitches/wickets - then theres the bowling and variation). its seriously complicated!

The greatest skill in sport is not to lose.

To say what sport requires most skill would be something envoling an engine, as if you dont have the skill it will kill you i.e F1, rally etc. takes decades to become a master and a true champion at motorsport.

So I say motorsport.

exactly my thoughts, hairing around at speeds above 200mph is certainly an art form and the best of the best do indeed make it look like a work of art.

Rallyin is on another level, judging every bump in the road, listening to co driver, analysing which line to take all at speeds approaching 150mph, requires the utmost skill, something that cannot be copied in sports where nigh on instant reactions are not needed. Let alone the aspect of if you **** up you could die.

Golf is a tough sport... and onyl requires athleticism if your taking a shot up-hill... cos by the time you get to the ball, your knackered!

i agree... snooker requires imense skill aswell... but i wouldnt class it as athletic, unless your professionally lazy :) ... or somthing!

darts is another non-sport-sport... if i can call it that!

Curling is a tough sport... high concentration levels, high skill level and you have to work damn hard!

edit..

also im not a huge rugby fan.. and i disagree with a bunch of big brutish blokes running at each other... i dont see any real skill in it.. and i know im gonna get slated for this but still - my personal opinion!
