What style number plates do you have?

So if I have a car registered before '01 but using plates that have a Euro-symbol on them ... I do not need the BS AU 145D?
(because technically the plate "design" I'm using is for post 01 plates; but the car is pre 01)

No, because the legislation applies to PLATES made after September 01, not cars.

Its usually a reference toward the car - I often see "D" in an EU style on old VW Campers & the like for example.

Well... that's what I've got on the Galant estate, need to replace my old-style, delaminating plates on the VR-4 as they look terrible in comparison.

On the day you took your car for MOT it had the correct plates on. You obviously changed them over after it had been MOTd, therefore nothing to do with your mate.

But how could they prove I didn't have legal plates on when he passed the MOT?

Just in case people don't understand what the plate means... I know to a lot of people it wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Text at the bottom to explain what the plate means? That is absolutely epic fail It is the most cluttered plate in the world ever, its like you've filled it with letters and numbers

Nope, he's only at risk if the MOT inspector is inspecting that MOT, or if you fail then appeal, or if you appeal your pass.

You may fit a non BS AU 145d plate to that vehicle, however, it is illegal to now produce such a plate in this country.

I believe the law is about to change on 'side badges' i.e where the EU logo goes, all cars registered and kept with the UK will have to display either no badge or the EU logo with GB underneath.....anything else is illegal.
Although UK Government will let you display either a CYM SCO or NI/IRL if you live in those countries, law to be adopted in 2010 IIRC.

That's a bit vague. They sell the Civic Type-R internationally and the symbol is widely recognised. More or less. It's not got boobies on it, so it's perfectly acceptable to me.
