So a while back I picked up Origin Access basic so the kids could play the sims and I could play dead cells, Titanfall etc.
Then I picked up the xbox pass on PC so I could play Minecraft Dungeons with them too, and I've just noticed that it's got the outer worlds and Hell blade on there also (Along with a load of other stuff).

So my question is, which of the subscription services is worth it or gives the best value for money?

I have only used Gamepass but I found a couple of their games just don't work annoyingly Football Manager being the one I really wanted to get my teeth stuck into. Have installed a few coop games to play with a mate but for him they crashed a lot of just failed to install correctly.

MS gamepass has a huge amount on it. The annoyance is it can be picky, and stores the files in an encrypted folder, meaning mods etc can't be used.

But the range of games is enormous. And the price is usually good if you work on the deals.

Gamepass as above and also Origin Access Basic for £20 per year is also pretty good value as the back catalog on there is quite good.

I just singed up for Gamepass for £1 for the first month, then £3.99 after that (cancel anytime), no brainer!

I do get tempted by that every now and then, but I don't think it has the DLCs for mass effect does it? That would be the main draw for me.

Gamepass is probably the best all round in terms of content & value.

It does however have two faults, the encryption they put on the files essentially stops you from using any mods or tweaking any files. This extends to things like benchmarks that aren't built into the game and use a separate launcher. in the game directory. Metro Exodus is an example of this, I got quite confused trying to find it until I read up online.

The other is the fact that it's tied to the Windows Store, which is without doubt the worst place to download & install games from by far. The amount of issues I've had is crazy, ranging from broken downloads that won't start/finish, patches bricking the game and needing a full reinstall, to games that wouldn't uninstall and needed me to jump through hoops to get rid of them. I'm sure most won't ever encounter these issues, but they're annoying as hell when they do occur!

I can echo this entire post.
Every time they do something the the MS store or patch game pass my system starts re downloading gear tactics (which i do not have installed).
Also the fact that they insist on delivering games and patches using the same mechanism as the little windows updates is infuriating.
i am quite happy to trickle download updates to paint, calculator, notepad etc as they take seconds.
auto downloading a 7GB patch for a game is another matter.
Switch it off and you loose windows updates.

You are not on your own, I've had issues simply installing games on another drive. I had Metro on C:/ and wanted Forza on my D:/ but its crapped out something horrific and I ended up corrupting the Metro install so I didn't bother again.

I think depending on which Uplay games you own and have played the uplay+ seems pretty good.

I have had game pass for a fair while now, as mentioned the store has its problems and you can often have to re download games multiple times but they have a nice variation of games.

However, I was buying passes from CD keys & amazon when they were on offer but those seem to be drying up and the price is going up, not sure if I will continue getting it at the full price.

Gamepass can be a no-brainer, but you'd need to look at how much time you have to play games and how long it'd take you to finish your current game. If you are doing a 100 hour game that is on Steam like an Witcher 3, Final Fantasy, Borderlands, Fallout (etc.) and you can only play 7 hours a week, then you're looking at 14 weeks (3 months) to finish it, so why bother having an Xbox Game Pass sub running for 3 months as you'd not use it. Having said that, what you get on Xbox Game Pass is fantastic, and I'd imagine most people would buy a sub that lasts longer than month-to-month anyway.

Yep. I let my ultimate expire due to having Bannerlord, and now playing through witcher 3, after witcher 3, I'll go back to bannerlord. Still have game pass for xbox since I use it to play games with my boy.

I am getting ea access when its out on steam basic seems a good shout if £20 for a year basic to play the basic games
