what temperature is too hot for cpu

i just tested my cpu at 3.3ghz and the heat is nearly 80 degrees.
I was just wondering whats a safe level of heat not to damage anything and i want atleast 10 degrees of safety on that.
Cany anybody recoomend a cpu cooler for £30-40 the artic 7 pro doesnt seem up to the job

Its q6600 currently at 3.2ghz, voltage is 1.350 i think

80 is way too hot, 65 max imho.

As far as im aware it isnt really recommend to go over 65-70 degrees. 80 is waaay too hot!

For stability for me is max 58c.

The lower temp the better, Phenoms love running cool.

Apparently its pretty good but noisy at full RPM. Depends what your doing I suppose for non OCed CPUs then its fine and pretty quiet.

As long as the Tjunction doesn't go over say 90°C (max is ~100) you'll be fine.

Keep Tcase below 65°C

Apparently the guess of Tjunct being 100 on Q6600 is incorrect, its apparently 90, which means coretemp etc default to reading Q6600 chips 10 degrees hotter than they actually are.

If you use Realtemp you can override the default Tjunct, and set it to 90 instead, which will give you a more accurate result. To be honest though, Intel processors actually report the current temperature relative to Tjunct anyway, if you use RealTemp you should ses a line which says Distance to TJ Max, the hotter the CPU the smaller the number... My CPU has a distance of 40 degrees when gaming, which drops to 30 or so when really stressing the CPU hard. What I would recommend to most people is that on the hottest summers day, you really want a minimum of 15 degrees "Distance to TJ Max" or more (more is better). If your core temp is 80 based on the incorrect 100 TJMax, then its actually 70 degrees under load, and you have 20 degrees "in hand"... That would be fine/ok if it was a hot sunny day, but if thats your spare on a cool day you'll likely be too hot during summer.

No it's apparently 100°C, loads of tests have been done. It starts to throttle at 100°C and the proshot register is tripped.

Tuniq 120 tower extreme, its 40 from ocuk i think and is a beast of a cooler yeh no more than 70 i say but then again i use amd. Definately not 125 like mine hit the other day

That's why mine has been calibrated in Realtemp

Core 0 and 1 is 100°C and 2 and 3 are 108°C
