what the fastest way to do this.....

I have a Lexar Firewire Compact flash card reader and I must say its worth the extra money. I've gone through 2 USB card readers that felt really cheap. This reader is well built and has a nice chunky cable. And with the 8GB 300x card it very fast. ;)

 
Firewire is definantly the way to go for file transfer, it's always going to be quicker than USB, for the same reason that it is also more expensive :p

I have a firewire reader but stupidly when I brought my new Mobo i assumed it had a Firewire port and it didn't :(

As mentioned the Sandisk Extreme Firewire readers are seriously quick... and expensive...
