It's 5am and I have been woken up three times now by the ****ing telephone.

Out of the blue, it says something like "Please select outgoing message" then nothing, then a beep.

I wonder what happened but nod off again. About 15mins later, the same happens twice. I nod off again.

Just now, it happened again but this time as if keys were being pressed and choosing an option "Your outgoing message is now - Hello, you have reached..." etc with key tones still going seemingly randomly and the phone repeating the same things.

WTF!?

Faulty phone or bloomin' ghosts?

To say I'm a little freaked out atm would be an understatement. My initial thought, despite being wierd, was that someone had hacked the phone and was using it remotely so I disconnected the line and it continued

It's now unplugged altogether.

Did you watch the Ring last night?

Anyway, on a serious note i got no sleep and have work at tesco from 9-6

Should make you feel a bit better.

If there was no phone line connected then it must be down to your phone, does it have a built in answer machine? It's possible your phone has developed a fault, or is now self aware :p

Similar experiance, got home from work last night to find the TV turned on Songs of Praise (Or similar) nobody in, no other lights were on and all the doors locked.

It was just weird.

mary needed a room for the night... :)

Why didn't you turn it off after the first time?

I did on the third attempt.

At that time of the morning, I didn't want to get up as I knew if I did, it would be a **** to get back to sleep again.

I eventually managed it at 8am and just woke up...(well, was woken up)

Plugged it in again and it's still at it.

It has become self aware. The machines are fighting back.
