Was downstairs grabbing a beer few minutes ago, and heard a massive noise, went outside and there was a plane that was flying so low, big thing like a 747 or something. Saw the flashing white light through the cloud.

I'm in Oxford near the center anyone else hear that?

What is a plane of that size doing flying about at 4am anyway, kinda scary.

dont know but i was having a crap about 7 hours ago and i heard what was clearly a chinhook flying by at what cant have been a very high altitude because it was bloody noisy...

guttered i couldnt see it out the window because of turtle head :(

I've seen that before and wonder about it too. Once was in rural Scotland, I saw a big passenger plane flying at 1000 ft or so. It looked like it was coming in to land but there were no airports within 100 miles  I wondered if it was going to crash but nothing happened.

It could have been something military headed into Brize Norton. There's certainly no likelyhood of a civil airliner being down that part of the country at anything below about 9000ft. Maybe a VC10? They're loud as hell and it would make sense if headed into Brize.

On a serious note, when I used to live near Bristol Airport (8 miles as the crow flies), the same thing happened to me, a 747 flew over the Chew Valley at around 2-3000 ft. I think it must have been heading towards Filton (But that's North Bristol). There was no way it was heading to Bristol Airport itself though as the biggest thing they can handle is a 767-300ER due to runway length.

Two 737's flew over my house 2 years ago stupidily low, they were flying side by side, it seems that one plane was refuelling the other plane in mid air
