The game is indeed DX9, but if you have DX10 hardware and are using Vista some of the rendering functions are done using the DX10 codepath to improve performance a bit.

There's wont be any difference at all visually.

Really tempted by this as I didn't buy EP1 and have so far never played it. Thought HL2 was pretty good but not great. As long as EP1 and EP2 are better and have at least 10 hours gameplay between them I might just get it....

Retail Orange Box though, not keen on downloads.

Ep1 is very short and so will Ep2 be as well apparently. Reviews say it's 4-5 hours long. You won't get 10 hours out of 1+2 together that's for sure.
