in 2 weeks im off to america. i plan to buy loads of clothes and trainers as they are way cheaper than here. I also plan to buy a DS as the person I am going to see gets 10% of walmart, so a DS is 60quid.
A guy here at uni (whos from america) said buy an ipod and ebay it as they are around half price. A ps3 is about half price but obviously I cannot get one as suitcase would be to heavy. I also may buy a copy of vista as its much much cheaper.

Anything else any of you know about thats way cheaper out there??

Do your Accelerated Free Fall course there, it's much cheaper than doing it in the UK, considering the currency exchange, and yay you will come back a skydiver :D

iPods are actually pretty good value over here, the money you'd make out of buying to sell is hardly worth the effort. A 30gb one in the States is $249~ plus sales tax in whatever state you're in, whereas here it's about £150. You'd make less than £20 on one and possibility not even break even the way eBay is.

Clothes and things are an excellent bet though. At the Macy's sale on Wednesday I got an $80 Le Tigre coat for $22. Also got some white Adidas Superstars for all of £30 which you cannot knock!

If you intend on buying loads of clothes, take an empty suitcase, then you can buy more.

anything electrical either find a uk charger for it on ebay, or if it's a plug device, see if the item can take 240volts, many can. In which case the american plug can simply be cut off and replaced with a uk one.

Expensive watch

Graphics Card

Designer Clothes

Camera

Mp3 Player

Expensive IEMs like Shure Se530's or UE10's

Buy your luggage over there - post receipts back to your home address so that customs dont find them and question your goods :D e.g. the new watch on your wrist

i will be taking as empty a suitcase as possible. If need be I will leave all my toiletries in america in order to bring more stuff back. I noticed cameras actually, 188dollers for a certain sony one at walmart or 160quid in argos, bargain. Shame i bought my k800i mobile for photos, oh well.

how much cheaper are graphics cards?? i mean is it worth the risk of them being faulty?? also do they check your large suitcase at all to find and tax me on all my stuff?? I looked on newegg at graphic cards and they were cheaper but only after mail in rebates

Check Warranty policies first, afaik Nikon and maybe Canon don't honour International Warranties, so if it broke, you would either have to send it to the US or just throw it away.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but my sister is off to Chicargo on Sunday, am trying to decide if I should get her to buy me a copy of Vista Ultimate. A quick search shows that the retail versions are about $358 or £289, which would mean that buying over there would be a good idea, but OCUK have an OEM version for £123.

Should I get the retail version, or the OEM, My current XP is OEM, but wasn't there that rubbish about not being able to upgrade under the new vista license agreement. Also, how easy would it be to find somewhere that sells OEM versions in the USA?

Guys, it might be a good idea not to post other companies names ;)

I know they are in the US but Mr Spie pays for these forums and also runs a retail establishment. :)
