Just completed my workplace First Aid course with the Red Cross (yay for CPR, Recovery Position etc) and found it really interesting.

Now, I know there are courses that expand on this which I am interested in.

I'm not interested in becoming a Doctor or nurse or whatever - but I would like to get as much general medical knowledge as I can cause it may come in useful.

What else is there apart from First Aid that a regular person can do ?

As many first aid courses as you can. I am trained to mod 4 level including cpr, cuts, breaks, burns, gunshot wounds etc.

There are higher courses available where de-frib, oxygen administration etc are taught. I hope to get on them myself if possible.

im tempted to do the st john "total first aid course" which is 28 hours.

what did you do to get to your level?

currently I stand at CPR, cuts, breaks, burns, electrocutions, heart attacks, unconcious casualties etc. etc.

Well you can join the St. Johns Ambulance and receive further training plus get to attend a wide range of events.

I was senior first Aider at a big multinational and was called to every incident in the office building. Got paid extra as well for this.

I achieved this though as result of my RACMSA (Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association) Race Rescue Licence, where we trained with medics and were able to utilise a wide range of drugs and advanced life saving equipment.

St John's First aid at Work is good, then there is advanced First Aid too, also Defib and airways courses are great (and only a day).

Could even always do a NPLQ (lifeguarding) course which incorperates a lot of FA and CPR should you be sporty or a swimmer.
