You could see if you can get into analytical chem/biochem. Otherwise possible the police/military would take you.

Sadly not too certain as to transferable skills that you have gained, do you have any big projects that you did which would make you stand out? Any work experience?

If non of these things, consider getting some experience in whatever you want in the UK, you will then have a few more points and be more employable than as a fresh grad.

Only project I'll be undertaking is my dissertation this year.

A study into the distinguishability of fibres obtained from mass produced items of clothing subjected to individual conditions, when analysed using forensic techniques.

Otherwise I think I may have to do as you said, get a year or so work within a basic lab environment and make my way out as an analytical chemist.
