What to do contract wise?

Well, i'm on an O2 contract, but paying a pretty bad tariff really, £35/mo, 125min, 300 txts, and i think i need to get out, contract expires in January but i know if i take out a contract via Phones4U they'll pay off whats left of the contract..

i went in yesterday, had a chat and came out with a Samsung E900 on Orange Dolphin 35 18mo (£35/mo 18 months, 500 txt & mins) then get home to discover what i remember now from 7 years ago (hope it'd be sorted by now) that orange has AWFUL reception in my area, called P4U today and am dropping it back in this week with the 14 day no quibble cancellation malarky.

Now the question is this, i've been a Samsung user for about 3 years, maybe a bit less, using an E720 & D600 and i absolutely love them, nice & easy to use, the camera is nice, albeit slow as hell at taking pics, i generally txt a lot more than i talk (but would like to have more than 125 mins just incase i need to make a lot of calls, self employed and sometimes have to call around a lot of staff re: shifts and minutes get eaten up easily!)

I saw the t-mobile FLEXT 35 which looks pretty nice, although they don't seem to carry the E900 on thier online shop i could see what P4U would do for me...although saying that is there anything i could do to get as good for less (ideal minimum 200-300 mins and 500 txts) and what phones would be recommended nowadays? I like to have a memcard slot, custom MP3 ringtones, custom sms tones would be nice, i do picture message, barely use WAP, but i would prefer a slider/more compact phone the size of my current D600 or thereabouts, nothing much wider or smaller than that, seems ideal size really.

Also i'm guessing O2 will not have much bendiness when it comes to renegotiations as i would like to get a new phone (An accident or 2 knackered the screen cover on this and could do with a new phone really) but then i'm feeling they won't wobble much on the contract terms :(

Any ideas of a phone/package that may suit me?

Thanks

O2 offer the online 500 with 750mins/texts for £35 why not sign up for a new contract with that?

Main reason being that i have a nuymber i really wanna keep (07X00X00X44) and pretty much anywhere i give it ppl say how lucky i am to have such an easy number, and i know O2 won't let you PAC and get a new contract then PAC to it, which is a real shame, otherwise that would have been my first port of call.

i went from paying £45 a month for 250 mins 400 text. Rang to cancel and quote Three's video talk and text 700 tarriff. They now give me 1000 mins, 500 text and a free k800i on a 12 monther for £35

wait and see what they offer

Yeah i think thats what i'll end up doing, just a pain being so careful not to take the screen out on this one, i'm self emplyed and use it for work, social, and if it meant i'd end up having to be phoneless, it literally would make life very hard

But i'll see if i can get the D600 to hold out and see what O2 offer, maybe they'll feel generous after christmas :D

I've just renewed with o2 as well, first time I rung up to upgrade my mobile to a N73 they wouldn't budge on any of it, charging £99 for the phone.

I rung up about 2 hours after that wanting to cancel stating diff tarriffs from 3 & vodaphone where the phone price & tarriffs are better. They then pulled out a tarriff with more texts at half my monthly rental but the phone price had to stay the same. Bit odd as they could have knocked off £100 for a free phone but they ended up giving me £200 off over the year with a cheaper & better tarriff? go figure how they passed maths.

Yeah, i'm still in 2 minds right now, i'm gonna take the E900 back tomorrow when i get my car back from respray, and then if phones4u can pull some amazing t-mobile deal out of the hat i'll give it some consideration, failing that i'll stick withh O2 and hope for the best i think.

From what I can gather by your minutes and texts; you are on an O2 'Retail' tariff... that is to say you either bought it on the high-street or you bought it from another company other than via www.o2.co.uk.

This basically means that you can port your number over to O2 'Online', its a seperate division of O2 and as such allows you to move your number across and act like a 'new' connection rather than an 'upgrade'.

Don't go into P4U, they're skanks - and whats more, you will be put through to a high pressure 'retention' team once you go in to cancel your contract.. Just tell them you're not interested.. the deals are way better online

Yep mate, originally got the contract this January in a *gasp* phones4u store!! lol :)

Are you 100% sure that i can move it to O2 online? As i am very keen to do that if i could, would happily call for my PAC right now and grab an O2 online deal as i loved the look of them but thought there was literally no way in hell i can get my number on there.

Admittadly P4U are a bit skanky and somehow i enjoy the pressure retention sales only to walk away, i'm sure i'll be fronted with that tomorrow, i generally used P4U a lot as in the past i used to always get good, free upgrades from them, but i guess times are a changing! All that time on vodafone made me think the providers were cheap w/ upgrades!

But if you're 100% sure of what you're telling me, that i can buy an O2 online package, cancel my O2 contract, get the PAC and move it to O2Online, then that would no doubt be the best move for me, i just need to know that it'll 100% work.

Anyone else know about the O2-O2Online PAC transfers? No offence garyh, just wanna get a 2nd opinion to make sure, but i'm really grateful you opened my eyes to this chance! :D

You can do it... I've worked within the industry long enough to know :) - ring O2 online and double check; 0870 225 7879 - make sure you speak to somebody who actually knows what they're talking about rather than some random goon trying to sell you a phone.

Ah ok thanks mate, didn't realise you worked within, well thankyou very much, sorry if it looked like i was questioning your knowlege :D Will give them a call in a couple, wonder how many tries it'll take to NOT get a doofy! :D

Also, what phones available on O2 online 200 would you recommend then good sir? :D

Well mate thankyou very much indeed :D

Just called o2 online, £35/month 750 txts, 750 mins, free Sony Ericsson K800 in Silver w/ 3 x james bond dvds and some apparent "bond goodies" :D

Called regular O2, just have to pay Jan's line rental on December 15th and thats that, should have the PAC by tomorrow and new number on the K800 this time next week!

Now to go take the E900 etc.. back to Phones4U *Does the funky p4u hand signal* :D

Really appreciate your help garyh! You're a star mate! :D

No problem :) - just a word of warning, the guys at P4U can be very pushy with returns, don't accept any of their lies. You're entitled to a 14 day refund by law, no questions asked, once they put you through to said 'retentions' simply state your not interested.

Enjoy your new phone, you made a good choice.

No problem, they gave me £30 cashback so i'm sure they'll want that back, then i'll just run like crazy as the salesmen come after me!

Just to be doubley sure, and to test O2 customer services i made 3 calls:

1. Nice friendly woman, advised me i can move from 02 to 02 online via PAC -****

2. Bloke answered after a long pause, advised me the same but didn't seem to care quite as much - ***

3. Friendly woman anwered, advised me the same and went about offering me the Online 500 for £35 on 18 month contract, advised me of the K800i phone and even mentioned the silver being new, limitied edition, that you get 3 dvd's etc.. with it, called the deal i have at the time "rubbish" and was funny, kind courteous and a pleasure to talk to - *****

Overall O2 online staff seem very nice and friendly, helpful, and seem to have thier heads screwed on!

Watch the phone arrive damaged now! lol :)

Kudos to Garyh

The Sony Ericsson is probably the best phone on the market for the moment, it certainly has the best quality camera (other phones have a 3mp camera, but their shots are nowhere near as crisp due to the cybershot technology of the Sony).

As for the phone, it comes via DHL as I recall. It will arrive in one piece ;) they usually deliver pretty early in the morning too :D

This is in contrast to P4U and other highstreet retailers who nearly always give you an open box, due to the fact of them demoing the handset to a few people before you and then placing the handset back in the box each time, effectively making the model you buy a 'show model' .. you wouldn't accept a TV that had been demo'd in Currys now would you ;)

DHL? oh god! lol, sent a laptop back to manufacturers by them a week friday ago, on the tuesday they tried to deliver it back to me!!

Looking forward to it, last Sony Ericsson i had was i think the T300 :D hehe
