What to do first?

Makes anymore sense? You only need to plug one of those cables in and it should be fine. Paint skills are amazing :D

Graphics card moved. But what do people mean power CPU. There is no cable for CPU? Just cables saying P1,P2 etc. There is a plug top left 4 pin that does say ATX_12V

Don't worry about the fan. The motherboard is controlling the speed of the fan according to various temperatures. Say if things get hot the fan speed will ramp up.

Hows things going, successful boot yet?

Yes got the power cable in but there is blue cable I assume I need to connect. there are three slots on motherboard, sata3-1 sata3-0, sata2-2 sata2-3, sata2-5 sata2-4

Any will be fine. However. Hard drive is usually ideal in Sata_0

If it's not a sata 3 drive. It doesn't matter as it's backwards compatible with sata-2

Thanks
one last thing I have put power cable into CD drive but I assume I need a data cable onto the motherboard is this correct?

Yes, connect a SATA cable from it in to one of the SATA ports on the motherboard. Or if it's an IDE drive, then do the same thing, but different ports.

This is a really easy one to forget. On my first build I made exactly the same mistake - since you've connected the large power cable, you forget that the MB needs 2 power cables, especially since the CPU cooler will often obscure the plug connector. It had me scratching my head for quite a while, but at least it's a mistake I won't make again!!

(Which is really the nature of PC building anyway - you learn from your mistakes and accumulate knowledge as you go along. Hopefully not making the same mistake twice).

I thought part of putting the machine together was easy its just when problems arise you think worse case. But I have found from peoples knowledge on here its just somthing simple. Next job power on and check BIOS
