I need some help deciding what to do in regards to cars
Im 19 with coming up to 1ncb driving 2 years one accident at fault :(:o

love driving and cars on the whole. I have a 306 HDi diesel which i cant stop spending money on, its a nice colour etc and i "like" the look of it. the power is ok but nothing special (125bhp according to remappers, non verified).

the car is a nice example Y(01) 5door with a tad of supermarket damage with 63k on the clock and ive spent a fair amount of money modding it in various ways (remap, half leather etc)

now i could stick with this car and get an intercooler fitted for around £900 (inc custom map etc) this would bring it up to 150bhp and 236lbft

what are your views on me getting a GTi-6 to replace it (167bhp + great looks, would have to be phase 3 but £££ and insurance)?

its frustrating as i feel if it was a 3door id have no quibles about intercooling it and repairing the supermarket damage...

just want to hear some views really :) Im open to suggestions!!

Thanks
James

ps the car was worth £3400 when i bought it with 50k on the clock spent around a grand on mods/running but you wouldnt know, such is life...

£900 for an fmic and remap? Do they provide the lube or do you bring your own?

If you want to go fast, get something fast, but you'll always pay for it. Even if you mod your current car it's going to sting you for insurance. It's not a worthwhile "investment" really.

You've got 3 times the power of my car, just be happy with it!

just re-read your post, you've got a 5 door and you're complaining

It's a well known fact that if you have a car with more than 3 doors, girls will look at you in dismay. Whereas if you have a 3 door, they will jump into your car and remove all their clothing.

Yeah I was meaning a proper fmic install with a custom remap, I dont think thats to bad?

yeah I just dont like the look of the 5 door compared with the 3

also if anyone could shed some light on GTi6 tuning it would be great, maybe links to info?

Cheers

Dam - thats where i've been going wrong !

Cheers Foxy :D

Although I often find that at Uni on a night out my 4 door car quickly fills with girls becuase it's a quick cheap and easy lift and less hassle than a taxi :p

In the real world, girls dont actually care about cars unless they are shiney, offer free lifts, and... thats about it actually.

not nearly as much as if you have little halos of light in your headlights eh? surely your not being sarcastic about me being fussy? :p

Clearly it's no coincidence that I ceased to be single less than 2 weeks after I brought angel eyes into my world :p

at the end of the day I must admit they are quite sexual :D

306s just look loads better imo in 3 door form, obviously this isnt true of a lot of other cars.

Don't fancy yours much.

youll regret putting £900 into an old school diesel.

it shouldnt be too hard getting a gti6 near to 200bhp. if i were to throw £900 at my engine (golf mk3 gti 16v) id get a flowed head, cams and a lightweight flywheel and remap to suit. id be upset if it wasnt c.190bhp after that, plus you get the revvy thrashy fun of a petrol engine

Yeah id like 200bhp and revs...:)

Thing is its not really an old school diesel, id expect it to be still cuffing when the 6 is scrapped, there dont seem to be many low mileage gti6s about at the moment and I want something that i can keep for a long time.

In an ideal world id get a 6 and keep the HDi but funds do not permit

fantasy: trackday the 6, get trailer and tow hitch for HDi one in cherry red and one in jet black :D

what sort of mpg should i expect from a 6 in real terms?

dunno, ive not owned one, but my relatively highly tuned 2.0 golf still gets about 34mpg over a tank... what im saying is that if a petrol engine is running right, mpg aint that far off diesel

But 34mpg is nowhere near a diesel.

i used to get 44-45mpg from a 306 dturbo years ago (xu type). 10mpg difference does not equal 'no where near'

if he's looking into tuning the diesel, why not just get the quicker car in the first place... the drop in mpg isnt huge, and there is something wrong with you if youre that hot on a few mpg anyway. if you cared about mpg that much then youd never take it out for a thrash, in which case why bother tuning it?

I pity the fool that spends £5k on a 6 year old Peugeot :(

Keep the car that you've got for a little while longer, then sell up and buy a proper sports car (DC2 etc).
