I've just counted my loose change, and it came to £23.50, not bad considering there was only one fifty and no pound or two pound coins.

Where do I go from here? I don't really want to go to Asda and do the counter thing because I don't want to spend my money in Asda...

Does anyone know if Lloyds can count the change and put it into my bank account?

Cheers

Go to a bank, ask for change bags. Then you can add the coins to the bags in suitable denominations and take it back to the bank. They'll weigh the bags and pay it into your account or give you notes.

Wise move not using the machines, they take a fee.

do what Ahleckz said and get change bags. iirc you have to do £1 worth of 1p or 2p coins, £5 of 5p or 10p coins or £10 of 20p coins. obviously the rest wont interest you.

the parents have a giant pot for all their loose change, and whenever it gets difficult to lift (and therefore difficult to take to the bank) it gets counted. usually ends up being a couple of hundred quid two or three times a year that you dont really notice disappearing but you sure do notice reappearing

Some banks will ask you to bag it up first and most will only accept if you have an account with them.

One local HSBC branch has a self service machine that will count the change and pay it in. Cardiff is a biggish place, I'd imagine you'll have one too. It's normally the large city center branch that opens on Saturdays.

my bank has a coin machine in these days, just stick your card in, lob all your change in and hey presto instantly credited to your account.

excellent for the large amounts of coinage i accumulate in the taxi, normally pop in once a month or so :)

Cashed in my coins recently, I am quite militant with change. Any change that makes it back to the flat in my pockets goes in to the jar:

Ended up with £430 in coins and £20 in notes (1 had given my flat mate some change so whacked the notes in to the pot) - not a bad haul. Not sure how long I had been collecting for though.

I changed it all up at a bank down the road from me who did it for free, wasn't even an account holder. They are called Metro Bank, but I think they are only London based. I think most places have a coin counter in them these days though.

It won't be legal tender for that amount, they can refuse it.

They can refuse it anyway. Legal tender is a very specific term and applies only to offers to repay a debt. A shop can, if they wish, accept payment only in kippers, frisbees or whatever takes their fancy.

do you really have to spend the money there? i've used coinstar machines in sainsburys and you get a ticket which you can spend on shopping or change for cash at any till without buying anything. the machine will take around 8p for every pound but i think it's well worth it compared to counting coins into bags and going to the bank.

go and find an item in a shop priced £23.50 and hand it over. do it at around 2pm on a saturday afternoon.

When I had the unfortunate episode of needing to pay a bailiff off (got in a bit of a muddle regarding council tax) I once paid him in 1ps and 5ps. He didn't look at all amused but he took it (after counting it for a while!)
