What to do with my mx5?

If the bodywork is in good nick it will carry 800-1000 all day long. I bought the donor car for my race car for 1200 if I remember correctly and that came with MOT and road tax, but had a ripped roof and tatty seats, which all got removed anyway.

Use it as a donor for a Westfield.

It's another reason not to scrap an MX5 and why the MX5 parts market is so bouyant. People will pay good money for a mechanically sound MX5 but has has more holes in it than a colander.

I am very much into the MX5 MK1 and MK2.
Yours is worth fixing. Heck I will give you more than scrap value!
These really are an upcoming classic and are fantastic vehicles.

Totally up to you what you do, but unless she is rotten to hell don't get her crushed :).

Thats an awesome, if a little involved suggestion. :p

@OP Your trust isn't activated! :( Someone might want to email you about the rust box you have. ;) :o

At current rates you will get £30 for it scrap. Maybe £40 :p

Just stick it on eBay with no reserve as spares and repairs . If someone doesn't buy it for a project or a mess about then a breaker will

Guess it's from owning old cars but I hate to see a car with useable parts go to scrap

Or an MEV Exocet (The route I'm likely to take with mine, 600kg and 250bhp will be completely hilarious)

Hi all.

Sorry for the slow update.

Rather embarrassingly the noise wasn't as serious as I thought.
I thought I had checked everywhere for loose stuff but a friend noticed that the cam belt cover was loose at the bottom.
This was touching the pully and making the noise.
Fixed the cover and the noise was gone :D

However.....

I spent a week looking for a new car before the noise was sorted.
Considered loads of different stuff but went to look at a mk3 mx5
Is only done 36k miles, folding hard top very clean lots of toys and more refined than the mk2.
Although I don't need it I bought it :D
Very happy with it.

I've had that new car itch for a while and couldn't resist :)

So I'm selling the mk2 on ebay.
It's a shame to see it go but hopefully it will go to an enthusiast who has more time to spend on it than I do. Still a decent car with some tlc.

I would absolutely love to turn it into a kit cart but I don't even have time to do basic repairs, let alone build my own car.
Would love to one day.

Thanks for reading.

What trim level is the new one?

1.8 or 2Ltd?

What year and how much if I may ask?

Private or trade? Did you get them down on price?

Looking at buying a mk3 myself so interested how your recent purchase went.

The new one is 2l sport.
With the electric folding top
Keyless entry
Xenon lights
36k miles.
56 plate

Paid £6500 which is probably £500 too much for a private sale.

I went to look at several others but none of them were as nice and I felt the extra £1000 was worth it for a clean car with unusual extras.

Good luck with your search.

Sell it to OpenToSuggestions. Always nice to see a car go to someone who likes the model.

I didn't want to break the rules by selling via the forum, I'm a long way from 1000 posts (think it will take me 5 years to get into MM lol)

If anybody is interested you will be able to get in touch via ebay :)

I made a video of the old car.
I tried to get some video underneath of the chassis rails.
I think it looks OK, what do you think?
Skip to 2min20 and 3min20 to see underneath.

Those aren't the chassis rails underneath the car, they're the frame rails. The chassis rails are in the front wheel arches, to see them properly you need to remove the front wheels and undertray. By putting the wheels at full lock you'll be able to have a quick look at then.
