Hi all,

I currently have a very boring and plain website,

http://www.kings-kingdom.co.uk/

I cant think of how to make it better, or if I should redesign a whole new site? Trouble is, I can never come up with ideas, and when I do I cant atcually do them :o . I mean if I was to do a new website, I would probably (sp) use photoshop for the layout, but that uses dodgy code iirc? (I can code, but I would get bored in the start, I would code all the features I would want though.. that I havent done on the current site :o ).

Any ideas how to "spruce up" the current site?

Oh, and I know it wont validate, I havent got round to doing it :p )

Thanks

Ian

Hi there,

I know what you mean by designers block, I get it all the time. When I need to create a new site, I will look at features and bits of design on similar sites and put the best bits together.

Not bad, it's a bit monotone for my liking. Maybe it should have a picture to make it more vibrant. The "downloads" pages table look ugly aswell. Not a fan of those at all.

Hope it helps!

tbh i think the main things you need to consider:

-colourscheme (complimentary colours)
-impact
-flatness (everything seems a bit flat, not modern)
-content
-consistency

:)

I don't like it that much really.

It's very flat, boring and lifeless, it may aswell be in black and white. It needs colour, contrast and some life. it has no images, and no real headers. The most exciting thing about the design is the rollover on the menu.

Try and inject some colour into the design, a light shade of blue would probably work. :)

I always try and get a theme, then go scout for a load of images relating to that theme.

Your website could do with a few decent images and a little more colour.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have tried to knock something up using photoshop (then recode/add code etc etc).

As you can see I have failed :p

What can I do to this to make it look better? I like the layout (what I have done) but it still looks very plain.

Thanks in advance

Edit:

I know its all images, but its all I know how to do it :p :o

please god no, do not use beveled edges from images, bevels look awful, you could have a nice small sharp gradiented background to the headers of the columns but not that. I think having a slight pattern or gradient from the top of the website background would look nice too. :)

Bevel and Embross is extremely overused. Avoid it.

Start with a clean cut logo, no need for special layer styles. The colour and font should be enough.

Like this recent logo concept I done:

Hi just mocked this up for you:

Mock of your Site

It's a little less flat in places, but lots of work to be done, just an example really.

edit: iCraig - love it, nice and simple, great colour scheme - what's that sans serif font btw? i have no decent plain freeware sans-serifs.

you know you're going to change it now after my anal comment though. :D

edit: don't forget, have a badgers at this: MOCK UP it's less flat, more design, nicer to look at imo. :)

See I would love to be able to make something even half as good as that from scratch!

Might have to check over the HTML/CSS and learn some more me thinks :p

All I know best is designing from Photoshop and even that seems a bad idea lol
