I have a modest budget and want to spend it on some sort of audio kit but I am in a dillema as to the approach to take.
I have around £250 from my parents (Christmas Money) and could put about the same again to this myself giving a total budget of around £500.
At the moment I use my PC for everything... Movies, Music and Games. I currently have a 19" 4:3 TFT although plan in the near future on swapping this for a 22" widescreen to make movies a bit better.
My dillema is whether to focus my setup more on movies or music.
It's hard to classify my usage, it goes from one end to the other and everywhere in between depending on my mood, but I guess 50:50 is a fairly safe average split.
So... which option do I take...
Option A
£200-250 on an AV amp.
£200 on a pair of front speakers and a centre speaker
£50 - 100 on a stand alone CD player
This would exhaust my budget for now, but at my next pay day in January I could add a sub, and then the month after surrounds etc (or maybe depending on how I feel blow the lot on credit cards). This setup would give me a setup mainly aimed at films, but should still be better at music than my current "multimedia" 5.1 speakers, especially when using the standalone CD player rather than MP3s as the source.
Option B
£100 - 150 on a stereo Amp
£150 - 200 on a pair of speakers
£50 - 100 on a stand alone CD player
£100 on a new set of 5.1 multimedia speakers for my PC
This option would get me a stereo seperates set-up and a new set of PC speakers to use for movies
What would you guys do given a 50:50 split in music and movies? Ideally I'd get both a stero and a 5.1 setup, but I don't have the budget for that. As you can see my budget isn't exactly very big anyway.
