Hi all,

Yesssss another spec thread, sorry in advance...

Decided I need an upgrade... i'm needing to run a few virtual servers to mess around with things and wouldn't mind playing a few of the latest games again!

What route should I go? I've got around £5-600 to spend... I'm presuming my old ATX case (Antec something or other) will be fine, and I don't need a TFT.. just the rest.

Is Quad core worth it for me? If someone could suggest a decent spec i'd be greatful! I was tempted by the E6850... but I don't like upgrading often so would Quad core be more future proof :o

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm away at the mo but want to buy this on weds, thinking along the lines of...

Quad core, 2gb ram, ds3, 500gb hdd, 8800gts OC?

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced PSU?

Hi.

From what I've read. The current quad cores are really two dual cores stuck together and they can run quite hot. If it was me, I would go for the best Intel dual core I could afford. Really up to the individual.

As to PSU's. I'm of the opinion that most of the big names are pretty decent these days. Myself, I like the modular Tagan's. Though whatever you pick, there will always be people "for and against". Just life...

PS. Nothing wrong with your outline spec.

What do you reckon to that?

Few questions... the GPU, is it the best for around that price? Is it worth me spending more on a GPU? Memory, that OK? and finally... the PSU, will it be powerful enough?

Cheers,

Sounds corny I know. But it depends on what you want! At that price point, it would be my choice. BFG's have a good warranty.

The PSU should be fine. Combined amps of something in the region of 40a on the +12v rail I seem to think.

As to memory. I like Crucial. Currently running someof their value in my machine.

Thanks for the confirmation m8, much appreciated

Will check the finances on weds to see if I can splash out a bit more gfx wise... may stick to that card and then possibly sell and upgrade when the 9 series make an appearance :)

May go to 4gb RAM, not sure what version of Vista is on MSDN at the moment tho, I know it's buisness... is that a 64bit version? Can't check as i'm away and have forgot the login details!

Posting again, but will be getting someone to pick this order up for me tommorow due to being awol so would like someone to alieviate my fears... i'm really out of touch with these specs, too enmassed with HP buisness PC's now :o

Everything good? GPU fine? Can anyone reccomend a monitor, around the 2-300£ mark... will that GPU cope well? :)

Cheers
