What to do...?

The other week my 5850 packed in. I RMA'd it, and today they've contacted me to say that my RMA is successful. I've asked for a store credit.

Now, with £225 in hand I have had a few ideas:

1. (The original idea) Buy a GTX470. I would quite like 3D vision, and also when watercooled and overclocked, these really become a better contender than with stock cooling. Then, later on, perhaps get another, especially as the SLI scaling is so good.

I have noticed in the time without a GPU that actually a 5850 is a bit unnecessary (been playing COD5 with onboard graphics, and still enjoying as much as I would have done with my 5850, even though graphics are terrible (720x480 res, 30 fps on all minimum settings)). So:

2. Get a 5770, and then maybe up to two more if (when) they start to struggle, then spend the remainder on some flashy nice-bits for my PC, or change processor or something...

3. Get a 5830. Good performance, and can be crossfired, though it feels a little too close to a 5850 price wise, yet not performance wise.

4. Get a GTX465 (Lol...) and hope the drivers improve it a lot.

Whichever way, I'm going to watercool it. I'll be playing at 1680x1050, and currently run a 955BE, though this may change in the very near future.

I don't want another 5850 - I want something a little different to sink my teeth into (enjoy mucking around with different hardware).

As I have always had ATI, I wouldn't mind going nVidia this time around, but it's going to cost some...

Get the cheapest 470 you can find along with the 3D vision kit, and then make the most out of that monitor I sold you ;)

That was the idea ;). It's £300 though!

Though using 3rd party drivers I could do the same with ATI.

Having said that, the nVidia 3D drivers are so much better. For a start, they're up to date with DX11 and full SLI support.

Well, after that massive overload of different opinions , I've just placed an order for a Point of View GTX470 with a 3 year warranty. Turning up tomorrow. Oh yeah...:D
