In what way is a Mk4 Golf GTI, a car so poor even the guy at VW who designed it admitted it was poor when the Mk5 replaced it, not a boat in ways that a 3 Series Coupe is?!?!

Sorry i was thinking of the previous shape golf ...

*must wake up before posting ....

Just what I was thinking...well not about the designer part. :p

Why would I want to spend £1400 on an overpriced sluggish car, if I was to get a Golf it'd have to be an 80's GTi and I'm avoiding the tincans. :)

Also I doubt I would get bored of the BMW...I mean I liked my previous cars and didn't tire of them, the Ren5 got changed because I broke it...severely, the 306 got changed for the 205 as I thought the 205 would be a better car for at uni...although the 306 would probably have been fine, and the 205 I got rid because I bumped it and it just didn't feel the same (felt like it drove better if I'm honest :p), but I just lost heart in driving for a couple of months due to the accident.

I'd have the fun on learning RWD with power for normal driving, then I'd want to learn how to push it, and so on...which will take quite a few months as I won't be driving it much.

Still welcome to suggestions for other things though. :)

I know im going to get slated but its a big heavy BMW with not a lot of power, surley its not going to give you the OMG RWD factor that you are thinking of ? A mate of mine got given a 318 and that was crap, about as tail happy as a robin reliant ...

/ Flame me

Surely the 318 isn't quite the same as a 325i though? ;)

But RWD will be a new experience in itself, and then greater than 70bhp will also be new. :p

328i's are pretty fast to most people (i.e. those without a Vx 220 Turbo). Will crack 140mph and sub 7 sec 0-60 if in good nick.

I'd get the best 328i I could find for this money. Perhaps a touring as although the coupe looks nice, it is a big-ish car with not a lot of room.

It's about 1300-1400kg and is nearly 200bhp. It's certainly going to be quicker in every possible way than a 150bhp Golf

And I'm not being a fanboy, because personally there are few BMW's I dislike more than the E36. But it's not exactly 'a lardy heavy slow' car.

I think he wants something that's half decent.

:D

You can get a lot of car for your money by the looks of things with the Saabs, not sure on them though, they are quite boaty and wallowy.

Prelude ?

I seem to find VTEC cars are not nice on insurance. Plus I thought any half decent ones cost a lot more than my max budget.

Saabs are very non Boaty. Infact I think one would sink after about 10 seconds. This results in non boaty properties.

Hahaha...you know what I mean, they waft about etc. :p

They are an ok place to be, but I'm not sure they are for me...I'm too young for them. :p

Just ran some quotes on Saabs and Preludes...

Saab 9-3 SE Turbo - V Reg - £1008.20
Honda Prelude 2.0i - S Reg - £997.70
Honda Prelude 2.2i VTi Motegi - S Reg - £1604.35

The 2.2 are very hard to find in budget and in manual, and I'm really not a fan of autos.

S14 200SX now coming in for your budget :) They don't look all that, but they go some :)

Only one I found was an auto and at £1950, so now coming into budget means the mingers are just getting in. :p
