What to look for/expect with an Impreza WRX STi "Blob/Hawkeye era"

With regard to JDMs,

Just thought of something.

If you're looking at JDM cars, always ask for the chassis number before viewing. With that, you can perform a CarVX check - like a HPI check in the UK but better :)

You'll get a copy of the auction sheet and export information. You can also have the auction sheet translated for a few extra ££.

If a seller says no to the chassis number then don't bother. Similarly, if they say anything along the lines of it wasn't exported following an auction sale - i.e. a private sale, still ask for the chassis number. It's likely it will have gone through in the past.

The auction sheet will tell you what the grade was when it went though - 5 showroom, 1 very poor. R or RA is "accident" but could just as easily be an aftermarket bonnet/wings. The translation is equally as useful as the grading.

My Impreza was 4B (the letter being interior condition) in 2017. My Evo was grade R in 2016.

The Impreza when we took it apart, we think, had been used in Gymkhana or something as it had a roll cage, bucket seat and the car had been on it's ass suspension-wise. The Evo was lovely, very low wear, had gone through 18 months before as Grade 5. Auction sheet stated bonnet, front bumper, radiator and radiator braces were all that had been changed. Unless admitted too, you'd never know. Just pointing out that grading isn't gospel. It's worth checking which auction house it was and where it came from. I think the northern islands have similar weather to us so cars could be rusty. I got knocked back on a Type RA-R because it was grade 4 but rust was stated - should have bought it anyway given the prices of them now!!
