What to look for in a Wedding photographer?

I'm not promoting my other half at all, we're getting married next year and because she's into photography, she has lots of friends who are also into photography too. So we did the cheap option, she did a friends wedding, he's doing ours, all for free, that's £1000 saved

I did the same. I shot most of my sisters, she and her husband shot mine along with some of my friends. I got great results that I am very happy with, for free. I shot another friends civil wedding and was a guest at their main - they far preferred the photos I took at the civil compared to their expensive tog at the main.

All depends what you want as well. Portrait photography doesn't do anything for me and I didn't feel like the need for hundreds of wedding photos when i only need a few around the house. For me capturing the memories was the most important thing so even peoples photos taken with their point and shoots works well enough for me.

"into photography" and great at wedding photography are a world's apart.

£1,000 not spent, yes.
You have photos, sure.

I would wait until the results come in before consider it money saved.

Exactly. Others though like good portraits, and they like their memories not just captured, but captured artistically and creatively. So wedding photography isn't a one size fit's all.

Depends on what the couple are happy with tbh. Some people are happy with Sainsbury's 'Basics' and others only want 'taste the difference'.

The only time it isn't or isn't likely to be £1000 saved, is if you are only satisfied with 'taste the difference', when all the odds favour receiving 'basics'.

The photos are great, and since I effectively had 5 or 6 togs there are a great many different scenes, captures, moments, locals, styles. Then again some of these togs shoot weddings from time to time.

Why don't you post some in the wedding thread DP?
It would be nice to see some, unless of course you prefer them to remain private.

I've posted a few photos in the big picture thread but since they aren't my photos I didn't want to go over part. Will post seem more.

Reading this thread then getting to the last post, I was expecting a William and Kate wedding style from all the high standards. Looking at that, it's like two kids that haven't grown up yet?

This thread has made me laugh so many if, but & maybes.

It's not rocket science, if you like someones work then book them as long as they have the list below.

30 Nikon D4 Back up camera's.
25 Assistants (has to be a hot female)
Meteor strike insurance.
Shoots low res Jpeg (RAW is for losers)
Charges 20k a weeding (anyone under 1k is rubbish)

:D
