Hello all

Contract ends in 2 days, and I have no idea what phone to upgrade to :)

Currently got a Samsung SGH F480

I believe the best 'free' upgrade options are the following:

Samsung S5620 Monte

LG Optimus in Silver

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Lime (dont ask about the colour :p)

Now...I have no idea...I've only see the samsung in person, and although looked okay, the 'O/S' seemed quite clunky and juddery (Slow)

Any of others I have no idea about without going through loads of articles...

Can anyone recommend? Or had experience with any of these listed? My upgrade list is quite limited on the Orange site, so no idea

Thanks in advance :)

Try and push for a Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire HD. Ask for your PAC code and they may offer you a better phone / deal.

Yeah, would do but like I say its not on the list...

what will asking for the PAC code do? Sorry, dont deal with phones much :p

How much £ per month? + how much mins/data do you need?

All those phones are rubbish or niche.

Currently £18, 400 minutes free and unlimited texts...More than enough for me

Never had to deal with data allowance so I have no idea as I say.

Yeah, as I say I've only seen the Samsung one and it seemed really laggy

Oh yeah, they have the HTC desire HD but its out of stock, and the Samsung galaxy S is £160, which i shant be doing

Asking for PAC codes indicates to them you are leaving them for another provider which normally they would offer you something in return for staying with them. :)

The X10 Mini.

However, you are paying just a shade off £20 per month, if you can get a data plan thrown into that (which in fairness you NEED for a smartphone) then you should have the option of a Galaxy S or HTC Desire (not HD) which are a world apart from the phones you have been offered.

Here's a few ideas for you to mull over... (to get an idea of what you should be aiming for)

£25pm/£50 phone - Desire HD - Orange/T-Mobile - 300-600 mins/Unlimited texts/500MB-1GB on a 24 month contract. (+ £50 cashback from quidco) Total cost: £600/£25pm

£20pm - Motorola Defy - T-Mobile - 300mins/Unlimited texts/3GB data on a 24 month contract. (+ £80 cashback from Quidco) Total cost: £400/£17pm

£99 - Orange San Francisco - Orange - Choose a cheap sim only contract ranging from £5-£15.

Any other ideas guys?

Samsung Monte is a normal phone with a very good touch screen and epic battery life. Not a patch on anything Android or smartphony. If you want a functional normalish phone with wifi and ok browsing then then the Monte is a good call.

If you have to take one of these the LG Optimus is ok but nothing special.

Otherwise, you could try a sim only plan, save some money and buy a phone outright like the Orange San Francisco then unlock (free now) and unbrand. This will leave you with the most flexibility and minimal tie ins (30 days to max 12 months). Works well unless you want a top spec £300-£400 handset.

Hmm...I'd have to come up with an exscuse though first! :p

Indeed, however come next renewal I get £5 off my bill each month for loyalty...So it'd actually be cheaper :p

Indeed, you would hope the data plan was thrown in eh?

The HTC as I said is out of stock, so i'd probably have to ring them

Cool...The orange one still says coming soon though? And what is it essentially? An unbranded Samsung or what? :p

I don't really want to go over £20 a month...I use my phone for texting and occasionally calling, which is why the unlimited texts are handy now...Naturally if I had a smart phone I'd probably use the apps etc...However doubt i'd use the apps as much as I do on my work Iphone.

ta for the Monte advice, seemed pretty much like that when I saw it

I cant really afford to buy phone outright anymore, I have rent to pay now so my bulk money goes into that! However £20 a month is just right

Hmm...I'll have to have a think / talk to people, unless others have any more direction and the idea of costs they have on the HTC etc?

If the Iphone4 was cheaper I'd get that, but at something like £300 a pop I cant justify it

I'd recommend trying the Motorola defy out then. Great build quality + similar specs to the iPhone 4 on a £20 contract. It's gone under the radar with all the recent 100Ghz/50ft screen!!!1!! phones recently released :D (just make sure you don't mind the motoblur Android skin ;))

MotoBlur?

I'll look up some Reviews then, see what its all about, never heard of it as you say :p

Eh? :p

Moto blur is just a UI skin for Android (+ a few bloat apps)

There's no real reviews out yet but here's a good run down.

Specs:

3.7" XVGA IPS display
TI 45nm 800Mhz A8 cortex.
PowerVR 530.
512mb memory.
~2gb internal storage
Upto 32gb microSD card
5mp camera
1540 mAh battery

It's already rooted and should get Android 2.2 in December/January.

Still waiting for my local T-Mob to get a demo model in... :(

Sounds and looks pretty cool, all of my free upgrade options seem to suck :( Even though I've been ith Orange since the dawn of time!

I'll push ofr something soon, see if anything else randomly pops up

Hello again :)

...Not upgraded yet...However, came to report that I can now get the Orange San Francisco...Seen a few reviews, all pretty nice towards it.

Shall I go for that? It seems its the only phone I can actually get thats half decent atm
