It depends on the rest of the floor plan and where house is located.

You could put a jacuzzi in there with a big screen tv or projector and some plants.

I too was going to suggest a Fritzloleum so failing that why not a basic utility room or maybe a walk in larder?

Do you not find having the washing machine in the kitchen noisy and irritating? I'd much rather put it away in a utility room (like the space you mention).
