I need to open up my Lenovo laptop so I can upgrade the ram, What does everyone use?

Overclockers has something but it's a metal blade (IFIXIT)

I use an ifixit kit for most things.

But, yup, as @Tek81 says, an old credit or debit card is essentially the same as the plastic pryers you get in the kits if it's not a screwdriver jobby

I will try a card first, it looks really tight so that's why I thought a tool would be better, found all the screws just was uncertain on prying it open.

used to fix laptops for a living.. opening and closing 30 odd laptops per day...

this... it has a flat end and the plastics should be softer than the case on the laptop so it won't leave a mark.

I won't link to it as Overclockers do include a prying tool in one of their iFixit sets. But if you search eBay for item number 306192175748, that's more or less my favourite opening tool. It's quite hard to mark or scratch anything with it, it's flexible, strong yet thin enough to get into a small opening to prise it open.

I should add that's not my exact tool, but it looks pretty close. I'll keep looking for my exact one.

thin/meduim guitar plectrum and precision screwdriver set...

Don't rush it, just take out as many screws as you can easily access (there may be more you need to remove hidden under stickers/feet pads etc!), then find a place where you can insert the prying tool of choice (definitely something non-metal) and work your way around taking note of where the clips are.

I recently upgraded the RAM on my work laptop (also Lenovo - Legion branded 15.6" Ryzen/RTX3060 spec) and there were a few points where it was re-clipping as I worked around it, but got there in the end!

Thanks everyone, sadly a credit card or any plastic cards won't do the job as the case is very thin, so will definitely need a thin tool.

Good news is I know where all the screws are none are hidden.

What's the model of the Lenovo laptop? Laptops aren't usually as bad to take apart as they were about 10 years ago.

The last one I took apart was so easy but that was a long time ago but back then all you could replace was the HDD.

This model is a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ITL05

From the YouTube video I found, you just need to undo a few screws and prise the bottom off your laptop. If you have a bit of plastic in your recycling, you could use probably use that to get the laptop apart. A piece of milk carton, maybe even folded in two, would probably do the trick.

Yep 10 screws, might try the plastic from the milk carton, I want to get it apart before I find a place to get the ram.

Are you sure the RAM in your Ideapad isn't soldered so not upgradeable? It is soldered in my five-year-old Ideapad 5 and current Ideapad 3s.

I used a debit card cut lengthways to remove the base of my Ideapad.

Yes it has 4gb that is soldered but there is also a upgrade slot for the RAM.
