What track day car?

I thought the e46 was bigger, heavier, more complex and not much faster than the e36 hence the suggestions.

Pretty much. far more work involved in getting an e46 down to a decent weight, and whilst they are pretty easy to work on they are most definitely more complex!

Just not worth the additional cost and downsides, unless you can afford an M3 :p

tbf e46's are dirty cheap, you'll get one for the same money as an e36 so its really down to preference. I've seen a fair few guys drifting compacts recently.

E46 are laden with pointless complex electronics, the back axles fall off, and there is no factory LSD for non-M (for me LSD is a must and a total deal-breaker).

Whilst I 100% agree with both the electronics and LSD arguments, e46 rear subframes only fall off on pre-facelift 6cyls, the same is true of pre-facelift e36s!

If it genuinely just needs rear brakes and a bearing (the bearings are in the disk) then its £100 and an hours work on your drive to get it through an MOT.

If it genuinely needs just that then why on earth sell it without - and lose a packet in the process ?

I'm always extremely skeptical of such ads, the price is for a reason much - I'd imagine - as its got no MOT for a reason.

A bargain for somebody to drop on maybe, but I very much doubt it.

Rear subframe is an issue on all E46 M3 series, including the last 2005/2006 builds have also had boot floor cracks.
