Thinking back about what TV's I used to game on got me thinking we must have been seriously poor growing up! It didn't hinder the enjoyment at all as I didn't know any better and at such a young age a child's imagination is so prevalent. Kids today are lucky!

1986-1993
I am only 30 but gamed up to the age of 8 on a Sharp B&W TV similar to this:-

1990-1993
I desired a colour set so bad I begged my parents for a colour TV only to be handed this from father christmas:-

1993-1998
Finally my mum gave me the old TV from the living room. My first decent box! 21" of colour CRT glory!

1998 - 2002

This lasted me until I was I went to Uni and upgraded to a HD TV. I saved up all summer for this!

What did everyone else game on? Did you have a TV in your room like me? I did use the family set downstairs when I wanted an upgrade but I loved gaming in my room growing up.

Black and white portable when I was a kid, I bought a new colour portable in 1996 which i had for years! I bought a HDTV in 2007.

Loved gaming when I was a kid, sunday afternoons playing tracksuit manager on the C64... Black and white didn't bother me.

I cannot correctly recall the television I had prior to my 14" Matsui video combi VHS, it was colour but it was a pretty old white thing. I used that originally to play my NES and SNES, then was bought the Matsui 14" for Christmas 1998, along with a copy of Zelda OoT which had only been released a couple of weeks prior. In hindsight this was the best Christmas ever (was eight years of age).

Had that TV for around six years, which is astonishing since the brand image was pretty weak as far as I remember, so the TV had a good life. After I got myself a paper round I managed to save around £30.00 and buy my neighbours 21" TV (cannot remember the branding) but was enamoured with the machine due to it's sheer gargantuan size (relatively, of course). It was such a massive step up for me, I felt like I could see so much more on the screen, Timesplitters 2 suddenly looked awesome!

Once I got a job in 2006 I went and bought a 19" LCD Samsung which was by far the worst television I have ever had the misfortune to spend my hard earned cash on (around £350). Shortly after I had realised this I swapped it with my mothers 22" LCD Toshiba (non HD as well) and the picture quality was superb in comparison.

Then in 2008 I splashed out on a 32" HD ready SONY BRAVIA. Epic...
Then in 2010 I splashed out on a 46" HD ready SONY BRAVIA. Further epicness...
Then in 2012 I bought another 46" SONY BRAVIA, but with 3D, full HD and 200Hz.

In 2013 I intend to treat msyelf to this;

End story/

edit; the latest SONY bought was actually August 2011 for £750.00.

why always sony? aren't they horribly overpriced and mid range in terms of quality?

also plasma > LCD (which is what LED actually is) if you can control the lighting condition within the room

i have a high end panny 42" plasma in my room (second hand about 2 years old for £380 when i got it, RRP £1500) but opted for a high end 50" sammy 8 series plasma 3dtv in the living room because it was a steal at £769 from john lewis who price matched online it was £1200 on their website.

so i tend to go for bang for buck, but im willing to bet that £769 8 Series Sammy plasma beats any sony LED offering in terms of quality.

I don't remember all the TV's we used to have that I gamed on, but I remember this one because it was the first one I had to myself and it was a great bit of kit.

The Wii remote was supposed to be like a typical TV remote, but this one came with something more like a game pad.

First crt I used for gaming was some Phillips tv. Was originally used as the monitor for an Atari ST, then for consoles. Was only mono, but had RGB scart on it, so was great picture.

Well I'm a bit of a Sony fanboy and all the BRAVIA's I have bought have been at very good prices. For example the latest one I bought, mentioned above, was only £750 new from the SONY Center store in August 2011 (got the correct date now). For the time, it was a steal.

Coupled with the experience my family has had with SONY's (lasting forever, great quality build and excellent performance), I have never had any intention to try anything else.

But I have to attack your choices to make me feel better about my choices! :p

Currently I use a Sony Triniton CRT TV for my Retro gaming. The picture quality is just amazing. I bought it a few months back from "The British Heart Foundation". Cost £30 and it was worth every penny. I can't believe people just gave their CRT TVs away. I'm sure The CRT will out last any Plasma or LCD.

This is the same as the beastly 14 inch Trinitron that I had when I was growing up, between the ages of 6 and 17 this beauty spent countless hours hooked up to one of my consoles. It even had carrying handles which was handy as my cousin used to bring the other portable down from the bedroom and we'd play Command & Conquer against each other on two Playstations using the link cable. They'd be faced back to back so we couldn't cheat. :D
