What type of problem solver are you?

I couldn't fit this in to a title, and it isn't a test so... :p

Are you the kind that:

A: Keeps trying and trying and eventually figures it out - in other words can't pull themself away from the problem until a solution is found.

B: Tries for a bit, then once you have run out of the obvious stuff go away for a while. Come back later when you have thought of fresh stuff to try.

(editted in from Hairybudda since I don't drink) C: Drink alochol. Try for a bit, swear at it a few times and then abandons the problem for the rest of time.

I used to be mostly A (like 90 percent of the time) but as I get a bit older I am virtually 50 50 now, depending on what the situation is.

I do have an annoying habbit of not being able to stop thinking about a problem though, and then bam! it hits you. It is very satisfying when you come up with the answer to a particularly annoying problem. :D

I'm usually type A.

I like to get the problem solved/ task done rather than leaving it unsolved/undone.

Depends on the problem though...

Mostly A but on more difficult problems I stray into B territory.

For our project last year I even glanced over into C but quickly withdrew then made the class think I was mad by going in, deleting my current program and rebuilding from scratch in one powercode session while listening to some Ludovico Einaudi on full blast.

I tend to try a lot of things quickly before getting a solution and am quick to abandon things which simply aren't working.

B (meanwhile after trying to post that) DAMN VB AND IT'S LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF CHARACTERS YOU HAVE TO POST - STFU VBULLETIN! YOU NOOB!

Mostly A - it takes a huge issue to push me into B territory. For example, sitting at the PC for 36 hours straight trying to fix a server issue on Linux... giving up, going to sleep, straight back on the PC on waking, and finally fixing it! LOL Usually A. Surely most geeks would be A types though, it kinda goes with the nature of the beast?

Unless alcohol is involved, then rarely 'C'. Generally though, alcohol would just make me an even grumpier 'A'. :p:D

A and B (and C), ratio changes depending upon the problem.

E.g. B for a game where I'm stuck or a puzzle or riddle etc.

A for my work, as you know, I get paid for it.

For women, C.

It depends on the problem but of the two I'm probably more of a B type, I'll attempt the problem after a few moments of thinking usually then if I sort if first time that's great, if not I'll try a few more attempts, if that doesn't work I'll go away and do something else but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm not thinking about the problem. I tend to find that concentrating on something else can leave my mind more refreshed and ready to tackle the problem again, I also find that if the obvious solutions don't work (i.e. those that occur to me in the first five minutes) then I'll start to think much more laterally about it.

Between A and B. I try something for a long time before giving up...but it lingers in my head and I eventually go back and solve it.
