What type of rum to mix with coke?

White rum is generally better for mixing with coke as the darker rums can be very over powering. There is however a nice happy medium with the ~3 year old rums (golden in colour) which will provide a little more flavour than white.

There of course some lovely dark rum cocktails as well though....

Dark rum and coke is um interesting when it comes back out any of the possible ways lol... I've mixed Captain Morgan Original Spiced with coke before though generally drink i.e. Jack Daniels with coke if I'm mixing instead of rums.

EDIT: Generally in the pub, etc. if you ask for rum and coke it'll be something like Lamb's Navy and more often pepsi than coke :S

EDIT2: When it comes to mixing and spirits I generally stick to the middle of the road stuff like Jack Daniels, etc. it is kind of wasted mixing a decent rum or whiskey IMO with coke.

Pretty much any spiced rum works with coke. Kraken(black spiced) or Rumbullion (spiced) especially.
I'd happily buy Rumbullion again, one of the best I've had.

We have Deadhead and Foursquare here to open at some point, any one tried them?

This tempts me to pick up a bottle of rumbullion now :P

Although i'll be taking a stop at waitrose on the way home as kraken is only £19.50 a bottle atm and I'm too impatient to wait for a prime delivery tomorrow.

Rumbullion falls into the 'Would drink neat' category
Others have fallen in to the 'What in the devils ******* is this?' category
