What tyres for a racer?

I paid £32 each, not as cheap as online but at least I'll be able to ride them a bit before the race at the weekend. Of all the top brands/models, looking at the sites with dozens of reviews the GP 4000 seems to be solid choice. 95%+ of folk seem very happy. But sure, just as you'll find someone who had had a great 5000 miles on them, you'll find a review where someone had half a dozen punctures in 100 miles.

Just fitted them, went on very easy - will report back after a ride.

I'd concur with the GP4000 tyres cutting up. Had them on my fixed, but took them off after about 500 miles. I've got GP4000s tyres on my Sunday best, but I don think they are going to last long; I'm replacing one after less than 200 miles due to a massive slice it picked up at the weekend.

I guess only time will tell, but it's clear that a lot of people have a lot of success with these tyres.

Just been on a 10 mile run and firstly they look awesome on my black carbon bike with red details on aerobars, bottle cage and my team kit is red/black. Can't really tell if they perform any better 'til I do my regular time trial but they certainly feel more comfortable over bumps and rough surfaces than the old tyres.

You won't notice anything in your TT, even with the best possible tyres you'd only loose a few seconds.

You need some deep section wheels and aero bars and aero helmet for time trials.

How long is your TT? 10 miles? What time has the time keeper recorded you at?

On my CAAD9 with heavy Aksiums on, and these training tyres I managed 25:40 for a slow 10 mile course.

I'd have gone with cheap Rubino Pro's over the GP4000's, reason being they're like 35 quid for a pair, and seem better IMO despite being a training tyre.

Also note Continental advertise their tyres as 120tpi, the true rating is 40tpi (threads per inch), Rubinos from Vittoria have an actual rating of 120tpi, and Open Corsas which are nice have an actual rating of 320tpi.
