What tyres for the CTR?

I am perfectly happy with Potenza RE040's all round-good all round weather traction and superb wearability. Some people complain of a stiffer and noisier ride because of the these Bridgestones (browse the CTR forum). This is partly due to stiff sidewalls which limit body roll on cornering and improve cornering speeds. IMHO if you have a car like a CTR you should be able to live with a bit of noise and a stiff ride and enjoy the handling and performance.

Yeah the Bridgestones are fitted as standard on the 17" alloys on the GTI. Most people think that they are very good in terms of wear rate and traction. The stiff sidewalls also make sure that your alloys remain pristine, although tyre fitters have a nightmare taking them off and putting them on (hence your alloys take a beating ;) ).

I'll keep you informed Heman on the stiffness of my ride once I am using French rubber :D

I got a pair of uniroyal rainsport up front on my alfa GTV 2.0 and they seem quite good.

Cant say they feel much different from the Michellin P1's i had there before hand - Then again as much as i drive quickly, i dont rally my car around corners all the time so cant quite comment on whether or not a certain brand of tyres would save me from going in, or put me in a ditch.

125 quid each corner, fitted - probably ripped off but i had a meeting that morning and my other tyres were about to pop from being worn through to the threads :D

RE010's.

Same tyre as the RE040 but softer compound. Miles better in the wet but still good wear (got 12k out of a set & took no hostages).
 
The 040's are a summer tyre and are pretty good for that car in dry/summer conditions. Because of this you will have to ease off during winter and drive like a granny unless you change the shoes.

010's are real soft so will grip but wear out also
040's are excellent dry tyres, poor in the wet
050's are suppossed to be better than 040's for wet handling, think they have a new surface compound??
