Current PC
Athlon 3000+
Rubbish foxconn motherboard
1GB Corsair RAM DDR (need to check)
ATI X700 pro

320GB SATA Hard Drive
Super Lanboy Case
Antec TruPower 430W

What can I do with this, with say a £100 budget? :) i.e. probably need new mobo (don't have a clue what AM2/939 mobo to get) + cpu (3800+ dual core hopefully)

Don't mind getting some second hand stuff.

What do you use the pc and what graphics slot do you have (pci-e or agp).

If you use it for gaming i'd upgrade the graphics card to a ATI X1950pro if it's pci-e.

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £39.99

(£46.99)
Intel Pentium 4 820 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.8GHz (800FSB) - Retail £49.99
(£58.74) £49.99

will give you a brilliant base for future upgrades... or you could sell your mobo and cpu on ebay and get a c2d instead of the p4... if it was me thats what id do

Intel Core 2 DUO E4400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £81.99
(£96.34) £81.99
(£96.34)
Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £39.99

so all you need to get is £50 for your cpu and mobo

Is the X700pro AGP or PCI-E? As far as I'm aware they came in both varieties which will make a difference to what I'd recommend your next step to be. :)
Its PCI-E
Thanks for the replies so far, considering them :)

If you don't mind buying secondhand but don't want the (admittedly fairly minor overall) hassle of changing your motherboard then a socket 939 X2 3800 and something like an X850XT or 7600GT are probably just about within your budget for a good overall boost.

Otherwise paul_64l gives you a couple of decent options if you want to move to socket 775.
