What upgrade?

the latest bang for buck rig would be a 6870 and an i5 2500k, so a tiny graphics upgrade and a massive processor upgrade to what you have now.

if your finding that the processor is your bottleneck then go for an i5 2500k + P67 motherboard + 4-8GB RAM upgrade

*edit*
obviously i didnt make this clear, i wasnt recommending you to upgrade to a 6870. it would barely count as an upgrade tbh. i was recommending the cpu + mobo + RAM upgrade

not worth going 6870, would be better of waiting for the newer cards to be released.

think the q9650 can be oced further, have read 4ghz but dependent on your cooler and motherboard.

if you want to upgrade then would say something like:

cpu: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-368-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275

motherboard: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-368-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

cpu cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

under £350 upgrade, if you want extra 2yrs warranty of the cpu get the retail for an extra £10.

Are the i5's and 7's that much better I know 4gb DDR is slow

its just a bit better:

as for i5 2500k vs i7 2600k, it depends on what you are going to be doing with the computer. if its mostly gaming and general use then go for the i5 2500k, if you do a lot of video editing, 3D work, CAD/CAM, large photoshop stuff, etc, then go for the i7 2600k

Better yes, worth the money for an upgrade, I'd say no. You have a decent system, I would wait for the next generation. IvyBridge and the new gen from ATI and NVidia.

If you feel you are not getting gaming performance, then maybe a new video card, but you'll have go pretty high to soundly beat a 5850 (GTX570, GTX580, 6970...). May need a new PSU depending on what you have atm.

You can upgrade some components though, like getting a SSD. Not gonna affect gaming.
