What was this old game called?

OK, so I am trying to remember the name of a game, it was from the mid to late 1990's.

It was a top down view and the object was to go through levels (a level per screen) of puzzles, and there was an ongoing story line throughout.

I think you played a little character that may have been a viking, or something like that.

I remember there being mazes on some of the levels.

Pretty vague, but hopefully it might ring some bells with someone!?

probably isn't, but it sounds like Gauntlet.

It was a lot later than Gauntlet - But was a similar kind of game.

don't think it's what the OP's looking for since the one he's after is top-down.

Holy crap, I remember playing this as a small kid on my Dad's old laptop (which ran MS-DOS!). Wow.
